The Denver Broncos have signed wide receiver D'Andre Goodwin from their practice squad and placed fullback Spencer Larsen on their injured reserve.
Goodwin and Tim Tebow showed a good rapport in the preseason during their main game together. Goodwin went for three receptions and 49-yards in the final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Larsen went down Week 17 against the Kansas City Chiefs with a knee injury. The Broncos don't have a true fullback on the roster to replace him.
Denver replaced Goodwin on the practice squad with wide receiver Tim Toone who spent 2011 on the Buffalo Bills practice squad and 2010 on the Detroit Lions practice squad after being drafted by them in the seventh round.
Full press release after the click:

"The Denver Broncos on Tuesday signed wide receiver D’Andre Goodwin to their active roster and placed fullback Spencer Larsen on injured reserve.
Also on Tuesday, Denver signed wide receiver Tim Toone to its practice squad. Goodwin (5-foot-11, 188 pounds) is a rookie who spent the majority of the 2011 season on Denver’s practice squad after signing with the Broncos as a college free agent from the University of Washington.
Toone (5-foot-10, 185 pounds) is a first-year player who spent time on practice squads with Buffalo (2011) and Detroit (2010) after being selected by the Lions in the seventh round (255th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft from Weber State University."

Sucks for Spence
But we needed the security depth. I wonder how bad Larsen’s knee really is?
Teboner - January 10, 2012
It didn't look that severe
as far as being out for a lengthy time, but it is the playoffs and roster spots are valuable. Just look at last week when we were down Decker and Dawkins.
KaptainKirk - January 10, 2012
Vaya con Dios
Spence, my fellow Mormon, I’m sorry you couldn’t be here for our greatest moment in five years, hopefully Mr. Bowlen likes him as much as we all do!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
good luck Spens! Dam that james Harrison!!
Goodwin here is your chance. TAKE IT!!

oddly enough
we bring in Tim Toone, who is also Mormon and has crazy athleticism!

Please don't take this wrong but
why the mormon stuff. I’ve seen this alot recently. Just wondering?
MileHighPride - January 10, 2012
if it bothers you
I shall refrain, everyone knows already, it all came about when everyone’s Christianity became subject material, but I suppressed it for a long time, I can do so again
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
It doesn't bother me for the record, it just seems kinda funny that you keep mentioning it
since most of us here now “know” you and are keenly aware of it, just seems a little redundant is all. ;)
However, if the Broncos sign Igor Olshansky, Gabe Carimi and Sage Rosenfels, I will definitely post many reminders about my fellow Jews playing. Haha. ;)
underdog - January 10, 2012
Remember there was a crush on Tongan players about a year ago, someone even posting an all-Tongan mock draft?
Normal stuff, nothing annoying
si_ice - January 10, 2012
I don't think there is a single Indian NFL player.
:(

not many Indians in any pro sports
’course they hold it down in cricket over there. tennis too. as far a “feather indians” very aptly named NATIVE americans, there arent hardly any left. we almost made them extinct. (i think just 1% of former population)
veggiezaffer - January 10, 2012
Some dude is being highly coveted as the next big thing in basketball.
Too bad.
I just read that Brandon Chillar of GB is 1/2 Indian (father is from India). That’s snazzy. Too bad I wasn’t that good when I played college ball – would’ve been cool to represent in a place Indians haven’t really been represented.
H-bizzle - January 10, 2012
Hell yeah!
My girlfriend is Indian and she went nuts when they won the cricket world cup. took me a while to understand the game. (much better than baseball IMO) i sent her a link of the Broncos v. Steelers highlights because i was jus so pumped… “i dont get it… what’s a touchdown?” hahaha oh dear…
veggiezaffer - January 10, 2012
lol...
Sadly I’ve all but forgotten cricket; I haven’t had a chance to watch any since I moved to the US in 94.
H-bizzle - January 10, 2012
But I was pumped when they won!!
H-bizzle - January 10, 2012
i was in India for 5 months
but didnt understand cricket in the slightest until like 2 weeks before i had to leave, it suddenly all clicked. yeah they dont cover much international sports here. Futbol especially. But at least i have my Broncos!

No please don't
be proud of who you are and whatt you believe. I’m from an area that Mormom’s aren’t in or at least I don’t think so. I had to go and look up the religion. I see that Mormom believe in Christ and seems to be more strict and have more a family based thought. I’m all for that. I just didn’t really know. I’m sorry to ask but felt I should hear it from a Mormom rather than make up my own mind about it. Your comment proved to me that your faith is one of respect rather than anger. Be proud of it. I was just really asking why?
MileHighPride - January 10, 2012
Yes
all these things are true, Tebow is my brother in Christ, Spence is, etc., all the above, God bless you guys and GO BRONCOS!!!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Please keep it up Bradfather
I love the different perspective it brings us. I’m currently an atheist, but was raised a Catholic and of course loved Notre Dame lol. So many times, seeing you pump up Mormons gives me a nice nostalgia for my past :).
Poster_Formerly_Known_As_Royal_Fan - January 10, 2012
it is fine!
my friend from college was raised Catholic and loves Notre Dame but he’s a Saints fan. I’d love to see Cruz and I at “odds” when we play NO in Indianapolis!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Sounds awesome to me...
Although I’d change “play” to “beat”!
Poster_Formerly_Known_As_Royal_Fan - January 10, 2012
I don't want to make this about religion but I have to ask
With you being Atheist and with Tebow and some of the things about how God is on our side, how some if not all of Tebow’s Success is because of God….Does that effect you an anyway?
MileHighPride - January 10, 2012
I think his faith is definitely helping us
He believes in himself and his mission and that motivation, whether it’s true or not, is awesome for our team. He actually lives by the morals he preaches too which I couldn’t love more. If my future child grew up to think and act just like him, I couldn’t be prouder. As for me, I’ll never tell someone there beliefs are wrong because nobody knows. There’s just no way to know so I’m not going to believe in something that can’t be proven. And I believe I’m living my life as best as possible, so I can’t imagine being penalized after death for not going to a certain building every week and praying to one of several gods at random. But in the same breath, I know for a lot of people this sort of thing helps them live a moral life, so I will never say it’s wrong. It’s just not for me. As for Tebow and the Broncos, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Poster_Formerly_Known_As_Royal_Fan - January 10, 2012
this is true
whatever Tebow is doing, it galvanizes our beloved Broncos in a way Orton never could
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
I'm of Christian faith,
were most would try and get you to turn. I’ll just say Thank you and I see your points. I’ve read before where you said something to the effect that if my mother, grandmother…etc couldn’t change me neither will you. So I’ll respect that but I hope that someday you’ll reconsider that just because you can’t prove something doesn’t mean it isn’t real.
Thats what makes this site so great. We can sit and talk/type and carry on like family. Thanks Mile High Report for giving us all this gift! I think of all of you as friends even when we may never meet or even speak. We carry on as friends!
MileHighPride - January 10, 2012
we are united
by the Broncos, that shall suffice for our present circumstances!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
I definitely keep an open mind
And I’m always trying to learn more and challenge my beliefs, so I’m sure anything remains a possibility in my life.
And I completely agree with you and Bradfather. I love the respect that is given on this site and how united we are. It’s truly a family and something you don’t see on most forums.
Poster_Formerly_Known_As_Royal_Fan - January 10, 2012
we are family!
Royal Fan Mile High Pride and me!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Hmm Royal
Just from the things you say, it seems more like you are more of an agnostic. Isn’t atheism basically “there is no God” while agnosticism is “I can’t say either way if God exists?”
Bronco Mike - January 10, 2012
There is no hope for us Catholic.
Everything is a sin…..ha ha he he
Kronis - January 10, 2012
you probably have a heightened awareness due to multiple factors
1) There is a #1 broadway show called “The Book of Mormon”
2) There are not 1 but 2 Mormon candidates running for president
3) The Mormon church is capitalizing on the above 2 to help with the PR, increasing billboards and commercials.
So you probably are noticing it a lot more everywhere.
IMO for Bradfather or myself to be excited about Larsen or Toone is not really that much different than a Gator fan\alumni being excited we drafted Tebow. There is a connection however small that makes us like the player and root for him that much more.
trumanj - January 10, 2012
^This was my point^
I wasn’t saying it so much just here but I’m seeing it alot more everywhere. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, right or wrong. I was just really wondering why the sudden change. Thanks for the info.
MileHighPride - January 10, 2012
no trouble
TrumanJ is a fellow Mormon who goes to Church and rushes home to watch the Broncos games, thank goodness for DVR!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
and not that it matters
But the Mormon church has nothing to do with the musical. It was created by the creators of south park. I’ve heard its funny and plan on seeing it but I doubt its too factual.
They also have nothing to do with Romney or Huntsman. They will not endorse either candidate. And I promise if either wins, will have about the same amount of influence as they do with Obama.
trumanj - January 10, 2012
it's true
I love how extremists in my ward go off the deep end for Huntsman and Romney, I’m sure you’ve heard it as well :)
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Yea not a big fan of either
Though I will probably vote for Romney. Being in Texas I absolutely hate Perry. He is only the governor by default. He’s done just enough to not cause an uprising.
trumanj - January 10, 2012
for sure
if you’re ever in El Paso, please check on my missionary contacts, I was "Elder Barton. :)
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Sorry I try and drive really fast through El Paso :)
trumanj - January 10, 2012
it's all good
I began my labors in Tucson, which is why I love Spence so much, but when they shipped me out to El Paso, I found it to be a desolate place, full of friendly people!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
speaking of El Paso
I just read that “At the drive-in” is reuniting to play Coachella. Hopefully they do a small reunion tour :)
trumanj - January 10, 2012
that would be sweet!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Yay! Tim Toone!!
the dreadlock white guy!!! i would very much like to see him do well here! i watched some preseason games he was in with the lions, kinda surprised he didnt make the cut.
veggiezaffer - January 10, 2012
well
when you look at the depth they have at wideout, it’s easy to see some slipping away
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
true dat
i hope he makes our squad. im not interested in religious affiliations. he could be gay and muslim for all i care. I just want another baller on our team. but like some of the other posters said people should be free to practice what they believe (or dont) and if it makes you happy that he’s mormon, then i’m happy for you
veggiezaffer - January 10, 2012
I want to like him
for more than a religious affiliation we share if you get my drift :) Of course, on this point, time will tell
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
With the way this season is going...
…wouldn’t it be fitting that Toone, Mr. Irrelevant in 2010, would have a 150yard performance in the SuperBowl?
Yes, yes – I know it’s a reach. But hey, so was the Broncos getting a playoff win. Against the Steelers. With Tebow’s arm.
H-bizzle - January 10, 2012
Well we needed to make a move to add Goodwin to the active roster and Spence was not 100%
DE_BroncoFan - January 10, 2012
I so hope we keep him
he is literally my brother!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
See you again next year Leatherhead
Here’s your chance Goodwin. When you get on the field, make the most of it. We’re all behind you.
Poster_Formerly_Known_As_Royal_Fan - January 10, 2012
And thanks for all your contributions Larsen
Didn’t mean to brush him aside like it sounded on a second read…
Poster_Formerly_Known_As_Royal_Fan - January 10, 2012
No
I’ve never met Larsen, but if he’s like the rest of we Mormon Broncoholics (trumanj and myself), he’ll cheer for the greater good of the team and come back harder than ever in training camp. Don’t let him get to the Faiders, Mr. Bowlen, please!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
What about Quan Cosby?
I know he had a bad game against the Patriots the last time, but I thought he showed glimpses of being a quality player and could have been beneficial in the playoffs because I have to believe he can run block better the Willis.
mt_griz99 - January 10, 2012
AFAIK Indy got him off waivers, so impossible for us to sign him anyways. Sure, he was a great returner, besides the when he suddenly forgot all the mental and situational aspects of being a returner and started fumbling to boot, but he had six receptions in his three years. I don’t even remember him running a single play as a WR for the Broncos (of course I could be wrong). He is just a returner at this point.
poorboywilly - January 10, 2012
I didnt realize that Indy picked him up
I just feel with the amount we run, Willis can be a liability because he doesnt run block as well as Decker did
mt_griz99 - January 10, 2012
Was Cosby a good run blocker either?
I think on obvious running downs they’ll have DT, and put in an extra TE in place of Decker or maybe even JJ.
Teboner - January 10, 2012
Yes, Decker’s blocking will be sorely missed. Willis has shown great effort and looked pretty good when I’ve seen him block, but Decker is an excellent blocker. There was a play on the goalline where Tebow ran the ball out to the left vs. Pittsburgh and Willis couldn’t hold the block and the CB tackled Tebow. I think if Decker were blocking that it might have been a TD.
poorboywilly - January 10, 2012
This was a good move IMO. The other move I would have considered is adding Eron Riley from the Jets squad but I like this.
I like developing our own talent and hope Goodwin makes an impact and sticks.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
Good move
Goodwin looked decent in pre-season for sure. I hope he makes the most of it and helps us win.

Hugh Jackson fired
always broncs - January 10, 2012 via mobile
Hue Jackson has been fired
so says Bena on Twitter
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
not a big shock, he mortgaged Oakland's future for Palmer and it didn't work
it was a “you look like a genius if this pans out” OR “you look like an idiot if it doesn’t” type of decision. Much like everything else when your a coach.
Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
for sure
plus McKenzie had his prerogative to select a new coach if he was so desirous
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Yeah I think it was more because of the new GM, wanting his own guy
than it was about Jackson’s personnel mistakes (which were less about his coaching).
However, 6 coaches in 7 years, that kinda instability is fine by me. Keep it going, Raiders!
Hope they don’t hire someone good like Jeff Fisher. With an actual GM in charge, instead of Al Davis, they may actually make a rational decision here for once.
underdog - January 10, 2012
I'm not so sure Fisher was good
I think he was average to above average at best.
Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
although
the Faiders do have some talent, I’d hate for Fisher, an obvious upgrade from his predecessors, to have that advantage
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Wade Phillips or Mike Zimmer will be top on the list in Oakland
MileHighPride - January 10, 2012
Agreed Fisher isnt all that good
Shanny > Fisher
Calikula - January 10, 2012
Thats awesome. Kinda like DC for us but in a much bigger way
Calikula - January 10, 2012
Lmao I didnt know Al Davis was making decisions from the grave
What a knee jerk move. oh well
Calikula - January 10, 2012
Reports are coming back that Bruton sat today's practice out
considering he’s been battling an Achilles injury, he probably just needs rest.
Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
that's what Lindsay Jones says
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
indeed she does
so does a few others tho =)
Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
That’s been the MO for several weeks now, limited practice for him but good to go for the game.
poorboywilly - January 10, 2012
They've been doing that with him for the past few weeks
CH74 - January 10, 2012
That sucks Larsen, we want you out there playing! This might be a good sign that Decker really is day to day though if they keep him on the 53-man roster. At any rate, someone had to go somehow—we need depth at WR even if he doesn’t get a lot of reps, and I guess they decided they would rather keep everyone on the team (IR or otherwise) than have to cut someone and have him snatched up by one of the idle teams.
poorboywilly - January 10, 2012
I actually think that DT playing our #1 spot rather than Decker is a positive thing
although I’d put Decker in the #2 slot.
I think DT has bigger play ability, is faster, etc and needs to be in the primary spot on the field.
Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
No question
DT’s upside is All-Pro.
RoxWS2014 - January 10, 2012
Goodwin can also return kicks/punts
As he did in the preseason.
IanHenson - January 10, 2012

Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
EDDIE EDDIE

the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
THIS
Royal needs to be handling the duties…there is no reason not to have him as a threat to take it to the house on every return.
sadaraine - January 10, 2012
I'd usualy agree
Except if Eddie goes down during a return (which is highly likely), we’re too thin at receiver to compensate.
RoxWS2014 - January 10, 2012
Regarding not have a FB
Pretty sure Austin Sylvester (another former UW Husky) is now on the active roster…
RainierDawgFan - January 10, 2012
Not sure how much he can learn from the playbook tho
Broncs55 - January 10, 2012
I like Washington Husky basketball!
Lorenzo Romar is a coach I really admire!
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Sylvester was inactive for Sunday's game. So looks like McCoy/Fox at present will be using more TE's and less use of FB.
Anyway this sucks for Larsen. I feel for any player going on IR as we go deeper into the playoffs. Just the thought of missing a possible Superbowl appearance must really hurt.
British Bronco - January 10, 2012
particularly
since playoff runs and even playoff appearances, can prove to be quite rare
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Goodwin's blocking ability
Does anybody know how good it is? Willis made some bonehead plays attempting blocks on Sunday and I don’t feel too comfortable with him out there.
