The Denver Broncos on Friday signed long snapper David Binn to their active roster and waived fullback Austin Sylvester, it was announced. Binn will handle the long-snapping duties for Lonie Paxton who will miss Saturday's game due to personal reasons.
Binn (6-foot-3, 288 pounds) is an 18th-year player who spent the first 17 seasons of his career with the San Diego Chargers, setting a team record with 256 regular-season games played, including a franchise-best 179 consecutive contests from 1998-2010. He also appeared in 12 postseason games with the Chargers, including Super Bowl XXIX during his 1994 rookie season.
Signed by San Diego as a college free agent from the University of California-Berkley in 1994, Bin was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1996. He will wear No. 54 for the Broncos.

Nice to see some young talent being brought it

He's a Pro-Bowler
Marima - January 13, 2012
He is one just replacement for the duration of playoffs/Paxton's trouble (whichever ends first)
si_ice - January 13, 2012
whew.
too important a task to leave to hochstein learning on the fly. hope he’s in some kind of shape, too (round?), to at least stand in the way of his DT.

He's only 1 year out of the game.
And who knows, maybe we can get him the ring the Chargers couldnt
Teboner - January 13, 2012
REC'D!

Exactly my first thought!

He used to date Pamela Anderson
She probably misunderstood what a long snapper meant.
Broncologist - January 13, 2012
Well
Binn is a thorough professional, I am confident in what he can do
the new Bradfather - January 13, 2012
OK, I have to ask
What personnel reason is he missing a game?
Broncoman - January 13, 2012
Not personnel
Personal. Who knows? I’m not going to speculate. It’s obviously something pretty serious.

Would be ironic to see him win a ring in DEN after more than a decade and a half with SD.

Why didn't we make a push for Jared Allen?
Allen is probably the best long snapper in the NFL, too bad he’s under contract… It seems crazy to be going after a basically retired player like this… Hopefully his name is only mentioned the first time he walks on the field and is a relative non factor.

I think the coaching staff has a good idea what they are doing. Pretty sure they didn’t just call this guy without doing homework

Jared Allen
is a rambunctious imp, he likes to grab opponents’ wieners, so he says
the new Bradfather - January 14, 2012
who do we have #FB?
Didn’t we put larson on IR last week
crushsg - January 13, 2012
You're right. We don't have a true FB on the active roster...
used TEs last week
broncofaninIL - January 13, 2012
What happened to that guy we signed off the GB squad?
Calikula - January 13, 2012
I can see it now
our game winning field goal foiled by a bad snap……it’s always little seemingly unimportant things like this that go wrong. Tebow help us.
T.Dot_Bronco - January 13, 2012
good move
I was getting pretty nervous
PortlandOrange - January 13, 2012
OK, so lets play some mind games and sign Randy Moss
Broncoman - January 13, 2012
Saw per Mike Klis on Twitter that Lonie stayed in Denver with wife to care for her...pregnancy complication with twins.
knoepke84 - January 14, 2012 via mobile
Whoa...
That is life-altering, mind-bending stuff. As a daddy who had a son who had a very rough start, I can understand why Paxton needs to be where he is. Thoughts and prayers, Paxton family.
broncomack - January 14, 2012
Binn is a Small Guy
He’s listed at 228lbs, not 288, and judging by his ESPN player card, that could be a stretch.
xandervan - January 14, 2012
Just don't botch any snaps David and we'll be just fine.
BroncoMath101 - January 14, 2012
well said
just like everyone else, do your job and all will be well, the Pats are overlooking us, this will prove detrimental to their cause so long as we execute
