Denver Broncos sign Receiver to Futures Contract

The Denver Broncos offseason changes have begun, with the team signing players for the 2012 season. The most recent signing comes this afternoon as Denver announced it had inked Wide Receiver Tyler Grisham.

Star-divide

Grisham, a 5-11, 180 lb. 1st-year player out of Clemson was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an Undrafted Free Agent following the 2009 NFL Draft.

The feisty young WR spent the first 12 games of the 2009 NFL season on the Steelers practice squad, then was added to the 53-man roster on December 10, 2009 after an injury to another receiver. Grisham saw action in four games as a wide receiver and special teams contributor, making his first (and only) NFL reception on December 27, 2009 against the Baltimore Ravens for 14 yards. The catch resulted in a first down and led to the game-winning field goal.

Grisham was the last wide receiver to enter the game during the Steelers final preseason game. He ended up having to leave the game after only his second catch, when he injured his shoulder making a diving grab.
He was cut on September 4, 2010, during the Steelers' final roster cuts. He was then signed to their practice squad on September 6, 2010. Tyler was waived in the final cuts at the end of Training Camp in September, 2011, but was again added to the Steeler's practice squad on the following day.

A 3-year starter and four-year letterman for Clemson, Tyler played in 50 games with 23 starts, recording 132 career catches for 1,390 yards and eight career touchdown receptions.

Grisham is 24-years old and should add depth to the Wide Receiver position for the Broncos.

Camp fodder?
Why would we sign those guys at this point?
Not to seem dumb or anything, but when can the team talk to free agents?

according to the rules or what they should be doing?

March 13th I believe

They can negotiate with their own right now I also believe

March 13, 2012>>>>March 13, 2011

no stupid lockout this time!

It's almost better than Christmas morning.
Finally a signing we can all get behind!

the future is here! just kidding

but I can really get excited about a guy who is even dropping the ball in his MHR debut picture…

in fact the more you look at his neck face eyes helmet in this picture it weirds me out.

look at that technique. beautiful

That ball is still coming in.

And he’s looking for his running gap to thread six defenders for a TD.

Thanks for straightening me out

I see it better now!

actually, a reciever is supposed to "see the ball in" as opposed to looking for running lane.
His SB scouting reports that he "Can't block."

So? We’re gonna start passing more?

Take a page out of New Englands book

And convert him to DB

maybe he can play MLB too.
How many times does the word "Versatile" show up in that report?

Oh wait, McD is gone!

He looks like a physical receiver

who can make plays when called upon, nice!

Magazu can take care of his lack of blocking skills

Look at what he did with Walton and Beadles?

that's the spirit!

accentuate positives, it sure beats the crap out of being a Negative Nancy/Debbie Downer

I don't remember him

But I like to move now. The earlier the better. I just wonder if we can talk to FAs at this moment by the rules.

For what it;s worth

He was coached this year by Scotty Montgomery, a former Bronco WR (2000-02). Randy Fichtner, who is now Pitts QBs coach, coached him in 2009. I would say having a Practice Squad guy would indeed be for Camp fodder, but it could also make drafting one less likely. At least there is always the shot he will make the team in Camp.

He's a 3 yr PS player who's got good hands but NO separation speed. ST at best!

Matthew Wills has seen his time come and GO? He’s got speed but just can’t catch consistently. Catches the ball way to close to his body, needs to extend and go for ball. We must draft WR…plain and simple!

He’s only 5’11", I’d sure like to see us getting bigger guys since they also have to block.
