Well, when Adam Schefter reports it, you know it's for sure. ESPN's NFL insider is reporting that Dennis Allen to the Oakland Raiders as their new head coach is a "done deal."
Allen is inheriting a very talented defense in Oakland, and an offense that has a ton of weapons. He is considered one of the hottest coaching prospects in the NFL and should be a great hire for the division rival Raiders.
Allen came to the Broncos after spending time with the New Orleans Saints as a defensive backs coach to be the defensive coordinator, and helped turn the Broncos' defense from one of the worst in the league to a very respectable unit.
With the departure of Allen, the Broncos will become the first team in the NFL-AFL merger to have seven different defensive coordinators in as many years.

Fire john fox and keep allen… Or SWITCH THEM LET FOXY BE Defensive coach man. dont let our best coach walk to our BIGGEST rivals.
garetrose - January 24, 2012
wow really?
I think you’re overreacting and overrating Allen just because he’s young.
jack_ - January 24, 2012
denver was ranked in the 20's in almost all categories
People seem to forget that….
DaLostBoy4 - January 25, 2012
After ranking dead last
last year. There is no denying Allen did a great job this season. And he also managed to change from the 3-4 to the 4-3 without an off season to implement it. I’ll even suggest that our D would have been even better with an off season to prepare instead of “learning on the fly”. NFL personnel are not stupid and there was a reason for both of our coordinators getting interviews for HC jobs.
The only down side I see to this whole thing is the Broncos have to redesign the play calls, hidden looks, blitz packages, signals and audibles. Or we can look forward to getting blasted twice by the Faders next season.
Disturbed70 - January 25, 2012
but that's what I'm saying
We were dead last, only one way to go from there…up! He still lead the defense to the bottom 3rd of the NFL. 24th in points per game. Not really eye popping. But you know what’s really impressive, Fox and Del Rio taking the Panthers from the bottom to 2nd in the league.
DaLostBoy4 - January 25, 2012
I love Family Guy!
They have a segment for any situation. This definitely says it all, though. No title needed, I agree.
Mhantra - January 24, 2012
Re-load the defense AGAIN
Dennis Allen had a major impact in Denver. The Broncos were last in nearly every major defensive category in 2010. However, under Allen’s guidance, Denver’s defense improved immensely in 2011 and was why the Broncos improved from 4-12 to 8-8 and why they ended up as division champions.
DLMyers - January 24, 2012
IMO its not as bad as losing Nolan
He took the 2008 D which was arguably just as horrid as the 2010 and made em the 7th ranked unit that year. That loss hurt a lot worse. Some of the sting is wearing off now, since Fox is a D minded coach we wont suffer as badly

But anyway, they would be the perfect 3-4 pass rushing LBs duo ever! Bring me Nolan!
Fabio Broncos - January 25, 2012
That was when DOOM took his big step forward
Under Mike Nolan. That was his breakout yr in the 3-4. I was so annoyed when they decided not to bring back Mike Nolan. He left for the same position. After making this defense a very good one.
I am annoyed again. Just tell the staff…. “Sorry, you are not allowed to follow your dreams. Especially w/a division rival. Again, so sorry”.

Nolan was also competent.

Joe Collier, Anyone?
Just kidding. The Broncos, however, could use a defensive coordinator for more than one year. Collier served in that post for twenty years with the Broncos.
I hope Jack Del Rio wants to coach this season, otherwise we may be going with former St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator, Ken Flajole.
RSH089 - January 24, 2012
I hope if we do get Del Rio he sticks around for more than one year like phillips is with houston otherwise he would be just another 1 year wonder

si_ice - January 24, 2012
I really don't think it'll be that big of a loss...
Fox is a defensive coach either way, so he’ll just bring up another underling and the defense philosophy will stay the same… Seeing the Patriots torch us a week and a half ago left a bad taste in my mouth regarding Dennis Allen’s game planning
CombatChuk - January 24, 2012
Wait you mean giving up 45 in a playoff game isn't a good thing?
dmitchell624 - January 24, 2012
pretty much lol
CombatChuk - January 24, 2012
As much as I loved having Allen as our DC, I can only wish him bad luck with the Raiders
…and it brings pain to wish him that, but nothing can come close to the satisfaction of seeing Raiders sink.
I hope Allen becomes to the Raiders what McDaniels was to the Broncos…
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
Normally I woudln't wish that on my worst enemy
but in this case, I’ll make an exception. Yes, I hope Allen tears that team apart and he fails miserably and gets booted mid season. Karma would be just.

Calikula - January 24, 2012
I dont understand the over reaction
it should have been expected. Allen was highly regarded around the league. Also our D wasnt anything special this year.
McCoy would be a bigger loss than Allen i think, as much as i hate McCoy. Fox is a D guy so i think we’ll be fine.
Scotty Payne - January 24, 2012
The reason our D wasn't anything special was not because of Allen, but because we still need more talent
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
True
dmitchell624 - January 24, 2012
Under any circumstances i can't see McCoy
being a bigger loss at all.
dmitchell624 - January 24, 2012
Fox is a defensive guy, so the D won't change too much with allen leaving
if McCoy left, we would have to change the entire offense, Tebow and the rest of our young offense would need to learn a new system and take time to get used to it. With McCoy staying, he can continue his good working relationship with Tebow, and help the young offense grow
Scotty Payne - January 24, 2012
Then now is the time for Fox to step up and show this wasn't all Allen's doing.
But he did get Von and hopefully some better talent so the D of course should be better. Right?
Boiler etc - January 24, 2012
But would someone
willing to use Tebow’s talent rather than be hindered by his flaws be better than the confidence sucking sound McCoy makes on play calls on 3rd down and long?
kimbertr - January 24, 2012
Because its the raiders and our loss is their gain. As a bronco fan I never want the f’ing raiders to gain
KarlMecklenburg77 - January 24, 2012
EXACTLY
dmitchell624 - January 24, 2012
They don't deserve this guy
the fans barely know who he is and have been talking smack about him today on their site. It’s pathetic how these losers are in for a pleasant surprise.
This is a big loss for us. I had high hopes for the D next year.
Horsepower - January 24, 2012
Allen go the absolute best out of our talent
He had our D playing outstanding football. Screw the stats. He had our defense playing at a high enough level to get us to the playoffs.
It’s a big loss seeing him go…to the Raiders nonetheless.
Nick Cast - January 24, 2012
It does suck that he went to Oakland.
If we can get Del Rio, i wouldnt be upset with this at all, cept the fact he will be coaching the raiders
Scotty Payne - January 24, 2012
I agree
I actually think Del Rio would be a good fit and I don’t see him leaving for a head coaching job after the first year, I think after Jacksonville he may want to take a minute and be comfortable as a DC for awhile. Of course this is just my unfounded opinion.
pr_rasta - January 24, 2012
on the Dave Logan Show
Krieger suggested Del Rio may want to be out of coaching this year and watch his star QB son play in Florida :(
the new Bradfather - January 24, 2012

That’s about all of the silver lining i can find in this
KarlMecklenburg77 - January 24, 2012
very true
and he also doesn’t have Von Miller & Elvis Dumervil this time around. John Fox’s defensive philosophies are already in place here (that’s the beauty of having a D minded Head Coach), even if he didn’t call the plays. I’d say we’ll be ahh-rite.
PaleHorse78 - January 24, 2012

Disturbed70 - January 24, 2012

Darn, then I have to watch him on the sidelines of that other team twice a year…
Damn it, Damn it, Damn it.
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
Oh, let's see
Maybe he got the best out of the Broncos defense. Maybe he blew coverages.
The Seahawks blew out the Saints when Allen was the Saints DB coach.
The Lions, Packers, Patriots, and even the Chiefs blew out the Broncos when Allen was DC.
I see a pattern. Allen seems to be a gambler. Maybe the Broncos can take advantage of that.
OrangeandBluesBros - January 24, 2012
When did the Chiefs blew out the Broncos?
1st game I recalled we gashed them and second game was 7-3 KC victory. Lions/Packers/Patriots were all elite teams and our D that is missing key components still played very competitive football…
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
"our D that is missing key components still played very competitive footbal"
Again everyone else…
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
Really?
Where was the pass rush against a relatively immobile Orton? Losing to KC should not have happened.
OrangeandBluesBros - January 24, 2012
Our poor D played lights out in that game I thought
our impotent offense lost us that one for sure, and Tebow’s new found dropsies reared it’s ugly head for the 3rd week in a row.
PaleHorse78 - January 24, 2012
You're effing kidding me right?
7 whole points allowed and your b*tching about the D’s performance in that game? That loss was entirely on the McCoy and Tebow
Calikula - January 24, 2012
the last time the Quiefs blew us out
was that game when Brandon Marshall got himself benched and Derrick Johnson had two pick sixes against Orton
the new Bradfather - January 24, 2012
When exactly did the Chies blow out the Broncos when Allen was DC?
I musta missed that one
Calikula - January 24, 2012
Lotta Allen fans
Let’s see how big an Allen fan you all are when he’s coaching the Raiders. I threw the Chiefs in with Lions, Packers, and Patriots because they were the last in a string of demoralizing losses. The fact that the Broncos came back against the Steelers was great, but means that they weren’t really up for the Chiefs. I blame Allen for that on the defense side. I am not impressed with a loss to a division rival even if its only by 7-3. Its not always about the score. Its about the performance. KC allowed no TDs. KC is not better than the Broncos either on offense or defense. I think Fox had as much to do with the defense performance over the season as Allen did. Fox and Elway will find another good DC. They are talking to one as we speak.
OrangeandBluesBros - January 25, 2012
Oh Im absolutely not a fan anymore
but I seriously question your football IQ when you’re blaming the DC in a 7-3 loss. That one was on the offense and the offense alone. And if you wanna break it down further, it was on the passing offense entirely, as the broncos put up over 200 on the ground
Calikula - January 25, 2012
Out of context
In my original comment I was talking about the last three games, although I meant the Bills, not the Packers, in which the Broncos lost by a combined 48 points (88-40), a blow-out, and I included KC (hence the words “and even the Chiefs”) only because they were one of the last three games that the Broncos lost and it was to me just as demoralizing as the others. But just because the score in the KC game was 7-3, it was still an unjustified loss. Its a team loss and the fact is KC held the Broncos to no TDs, while the Broncos did not hold KC to no TDs. Yes, I blame the defense as well as the offense for that loss and yes I blame Allen for the defense’s performance in all the losses. It wasn’t for lack of effort by the players, it was a lack of communication by the defense.
OrangeandBluesBros - January 25, 2012
Im sorry
but the argument you just gave for the defense fielding some of the blame for the KC is among the worst one I’ve ever heard. If the defense could average 7 points given up over an entire season we would see the greatest defense to ever take the field. If your offense is so weak that it cant over come a 7 point deficit in 3 quarters of football, well your problem isnt your defense. You make valid points about the GB and Pats games, but you’re completely and utterly wrong about the defense being partially to blame for the KC loss. I dont think there is a single person here who would agree with you on that point.
Calikula - January 25, 2012
Ha Ha Ha Ha
I knew when I included KC in my comment that I would get some rebuke, yet I did it anyway. But no matter how you look at it, a three game skid including two blowouts (Pats and Buffalo) and one should not have happened (KC), plus two other blowouts (Lions and Packers), is a defense in need of repair. It doesn’t matter how they looked at times if they have no consistency. The Lions and Bills are not in the elite yet. Those games should have been closer. As far as KC, I was an Orton fan (though I liked Tebow too), but understood the knock on him was he folds under pressure. That was at least partially true. In a low scoring game, it is an opportunity for a pick 6 to make a huge difference. The Broncos faced an Orton that went 1-4 with the Broncos with a few interceptions in that string. The Broncos defense should have been able to win that game. I simply don’t believe the KC offensive line was that good to prevent the Broncos pass rushers from exerting enough pressure to cause Orton to throw an interception that could be returned for a TD. The Steelers game was impressive against a HOF DC. Before you go blaming the “poor offense,” keep in mind that the Packers only scored 14 points against KC and GB had a vaunted offense and a recognized premier QB, but a poor statistical defense. The KC game was disappointing, and following two blowouts (one by a team that is not a premier team) it was downright disgusting. But you go ahead and hold to your opinion. Say what you want. I’m not going to respond further
OrangeandBluesBros - January 25, 2012
You have the worst arguments I’ve ever read. The Lions arent elite? Go and look at their offensive stats for the year bub.

The Broncos defense should have won the KC game? They allowed ONE, count em, ONE TD in 4 qtrs of football. Im glad your done responding, because Im sure you understand how dumb you sound right now

Stomp him, destroy him, ruin his reputaion and cheer when he is spit out the bottom end of the porn industry.
JohnCalvinKnox - January 24, 2012
Hopefully we make a run at Todd Bowles from the Dolphins
I like the way his defense stepped up this year
ElwayFanJ - January 24, 2012
true
PaleHorse78 - January 24, 2012
McCoy would have to chuckle about that.
Digger24 - January 24, 2012
I don't really care what McCoy thinks
Until he shows me some creativity/imagination on offense
ElwayFanJ - January 24, 2012
Sarcasm, Right?
We run a triple option, QB read, spread, and are teaching our young Oline to handle a QB rolling left. Oh and we are doing it with unporoven 1st and 2nd year men and a journeyman runningback.
HippoJohn - January 24, 2012
I'm assuming you watched the Steelers and Patriots playoff games
We were ultra aggressive against one of the best defenses in the NFL and then extremely conservative against one of the worst defenses??? I think you might be giving McCoy a tad too much credit.
ElwayFanJ - January 24, 2012
I think you may have a lack of understanding of defensive schemes
The Patriots defensive scheme was hilariously different from what the Steelers did. The Steelers stacked the line in a way no one’s really even seen before, so your ONLY choice was to throw against basically cover-0 which is what we got all game.
Patriots on the other hand are content to play a conservative coverage that forces you to slowly move down the field and sustain drives – which just happens to be what our O struggles to do. You can’t just “get aggressive” and start throwing down the field where the safeties are playing deep. I think you aren’t giving him enough credit…
scooter17 - January 24, 2012
Belichick is a master at taking away your strengths
there I said it, he’s still a scumbag
the new Bradfather - January 24, 2012
Sounds complicated
when you say it that way.
Digger24 - January 24, 2012
I hate to see him leave
However… I have a hunch that our D’s poor showing and unprepared play against the Pats in the divisional round has nothing to do with Allen’s head being more in perparing for HC interview (at that time, for the Rams). I have no proof of that, though.
It seems he was set on becoming a HC. And there were enough teams around the league willing to give him at least an interview. Can’t keep a horse like this in stable. Only if we offered him our own HC job, but there’s no way we could bump Fox after a year like this. Oh well.
Sucks he went to the Raiders. Congrats, Mr Allen and I don’t wish you good luck. Actually, I hope you prove that your meteoric rise from DB coach to HC was too fast and you blow up your first HC job. Sorry.
si_ice - January 24, 2012
Exactly my thoughts, his head wasn't in the most important game we've had for more than five years.
I obviously don’t know anything for sure either, but how can you go to an interview for a head coaching position 2 days prior to your PLAYOFF game!! I was pissed then and now I’m even more pissed.
To me, this showed a lack of leadership and maturity; and don’t tell me he didn’t prepare at all for the interview taking time away from his game planning/coaching.
Go for it faiders you can have him…perfect fit!
Mile High ThundaDownUnda - January 24, 2012
Oh come on....
95% of coaches would have requested the same thing. The FO did not have to play nice guys of the NFL’ again: Allen was allwed to interview when he did.
Boiler etc - January 24, 2012
Mike Mularkey told us to wait last year.
So you’re saying that it doesn’t bother you at all that the DC took off on a Thursday night to interview prior to a Saturday (short week) game?
How long does it take you to get ready for an interview? It takes me a days to prepare.
Sorry I think that was a douchebag move.
Mile High ThundaDownUnda - January 24, 2012
Yup, that was in bad form
and so was this. I’ll have to give credit to DLMyer, he called it right when he said Dennis Allen wanted to jump ship. The interview before the Pats game was inexcusable. Other coordinators have declined til after their own season was over. I say good riddance to him, and I hope he fails miserably over there
Calikula - January 24, 2012
Of course, it bothered everyone.
The point is that not all teams would have allowed him to leave at that particular time. Period.
Hate the guy, OK. Hate where he went, of course. But you won’t question that his superiors were fine with it.
Boiler etc - January 24, 2012
If I remember right
(no guarantee of that) Mike Mularkey never did come here to interview, did he?
Boiler etc - January 24, 2012
No, he didn't...I believe he ended up pulling his name out.
It was Mularkey’s decision not to interview though, not Atlanta’s FO. He wanted to remain focused on the job at hand.
I don’t think that many FO’s in the NFL would tell a coach not to interview for a HC position. It would probably limit the number of quality coaches that they could attract.
I DO think that if he was 100% focused on the job at hand then he would’ve have told the Rams to wait, and they (and especially our players) probably would have respected that.
Mile High ThundaDownUnda - January 24, 2012
I was just about to ask this
how many FO’s deny other teams interviews to their assistants? Dennis Allen has his head in the wrong place and I sincerely hope it comes back to bite him in the a**.
Calikula - January 24, 2012
This makes me sick
this is something we were worrying about 2 – 3 years from now…. not after YEAR ONE!?!?
Good God… what does this pitiful team have to do to keep a DC around here? The good news is, John Fox is a defensive mastermind who’s worked with some great minds in the business. He has some connects.
PaleHorse78 - January 24, 2012
Damn, Im really effing pissed about this one Pale
McCoy would have stung a lot less than Allen.
Calikula - January 24, 2012
disagree
Since Fox is supposed to be a D guy then he will hopefully maintain continuity..
Boiler etc - January 24, 2012
Here we go again.
Seven DC in seven years? That is really really sad.
weazel - January 24, 2012 via iPhone app
I don't think it's as big of a deal with a defensive head coach like Fox
He’s probably running the show on that side of the ball anyways
ElwayFanJ - January 24, 2012
You are probably right
but I would like for the Broncos to find one and at least keep him for awhile
weazel - January 24, 2012
Then now is the perfect time for Fox to show his ability
Boiler etc - January 24, 2012
It really sucks.
Then bring me MIKE NOLAN back!!!!! Or interview Del Rio for DC.
Fabio Broncos - January 24, 2012
I think Mike Nolan is the Saints new DC
There’s been a bunch of lateral DC moves it seems. Umm, let’s see – Gregg Williams to the Rams… Steve Spagnuola to the Falcons (he was a HC)… Nolan to the Saint’s. There’s been some more that escape me right now.
PaleHorse78 - January 24, 2012
This news also sucks. Oh damn it =(
Fabio Broncos - January 24, 2012
One thing I noticed about Nolan
He doesnt stay in one spot very long. Jumps around all over the league. Not good
Calikula - January 24, 2012
Kind of a misconception....
5 years Lb coach with us, 4yrs DC Giants, 3yrs DC Redskins, 1y DC Jets, 4y Ravens, 4y HC 9ers, 1y with us again, then 3 years with Phins.
Almost all of those defenses were successful when he was there. Contracts are usually 3 4 years… so on the surface it looks like he fulfilled his commitment and for whatever reason he left. Whether it be a promotion… better fit… or Dbag HC that thinks he knows it all.
And notice.. everywhere he went he was a DC. Its not like he got demoted to position coach. Only demotion was from HC to DC.
Triz06 - January 25, 2012
&^%$in #$^$lickin $$## holy #%##@!!!! Piss!!! Nuts!!!!

Del Rio all day. And let him wear a suit.
aLuffabo - January 24, 2012
Get off the damn bridge people he is one coach not one of us knows how it will all turn out so its now time to hate the guy he is a raider now.
always broncs - January 24, 2012 via mobile
Yesterday I loved him.
He was a Bronco. Tomorrow I hate him he’ll be a stinking Raider from the dark side.
HippoJohn - January 24, 2012
It sucks for us
but it’s probably a bad hire by the Raiders. Not to dismiss the job Allen did here, but this was only his first year as a DC and we were a below average defense by virtually any measure. Sure we were terrible the year before, but we didn’t have Doom, Von Miller, or Bunkley who were probably 3 of our top 4 (Champ) defenders this year.
jack_ - January 24, 2012
What's Larry Coyer doing these days?
He was the last decent one Shanahan had. Though for my first choice, I agree with those who have said Del Rio.
alacy9513 - January 24, 2012
Coyer was let go by Indy this year.
He’s available.
Kwon - January 24, 2012 via Android app
Sorry the days of me accepting lightweight, yet fast, defense
that has it’s corners play 10+ yards off the WR are over.
Not putting up with that kinda crap ever again.

so who is he gonna cherry pick for his new staff?

Oh wow, I hadn't even thought about that yet. [gnashing teeth]
Mile High ThundaDownUnda - January 24, 2012
any other team and
I would be very happy for him and wish him luck.
Now I just hope he makes it out of there alive and fairly unscathed.
Welcome to Denver Mr. Del Rio.

Mike Singletary is the Chicago Bears' 4/3 linebacker coach...
bfree2bronc - January 24, 2012
Do we go internal for this to keep some stability
Richard Smith – Linebackers coach?
Ron Milus – Secondary coach?
Wayne Nunnely – Defensive line coach?
yibberat - January 24, 2012
all oh whom...
…might be swept along with Allen as he makes his way to Oakland. He may offer them higher positions there.
TheBrownKnight - January 24, 2012
Man I am bummed
I really liked this guy and not to mention 7 Dc in same time. argh.
Earthtiger24 - January 24, 2012
On the plus side folks, he was just a DB coach before he came here
…..That and teams did put up 40+ on us four times (Tebow’s turnovers understood)
Whatever, dude is a Raider now, he has jumped ship to our most hated rival and can suffer the wrath of our team and fanbase. On the bright side, he’s more likely to go the way of Spags or Morris and field an inept team.
Whatever I’m over it, dude had a shot at a promotion and took it, nothing more, nothing less. If Fox is the sort of coach and knowledgeable football mind I think he is, then this will be a non issue next year.
Bronco Mike - January 24, 2012
dont worry
the raiders are in for a downfall because of 1 no draft picks and no cap room now if allen is a good hc then we will have to worry my rariders freids will hate to hear this but the raiders are blowlng everything up will be 5-11 or 6-10 in 12 we need a guy from Balt or NYJ def staff because to go to the super bowl WE MUST match up better against NE and every team we play next year will copy what ne done to us 1 idea couild be wintson moss a ex raider lb as dc
j-man - January 24, 2012
Jets could be a good target for us
yibberat - January 24, 2012
I hate the Raiders even more now.
Bunch of jackasses. There should be stealing of coaches within the same division. As a Bronco, Allan has a moral responsibility to not work for the Raiders. :) At least that’s how it should work.
Now I have to root against him and hope that he fails miserably. Maybe he’ll only last eight games, like Shanny.
Jason Witte - January 24, 2012
Hell no
This pisses me off, but what can you do? Congrats Coach Allen – but now that you’re a Raider I wish you nothing less than failure….
I’m for Del Rio
Berserker13 - January 24, 2012
As a JAG fan I can tell you I would not wish Del Rio on the Broncos
We put up with Del Rio for years. He never showed any ability to coach up any of our draft picks. Several years ago he blew up the locker room getting rid of almost all of the team leaders. The team did not improve. It got better last year because of some FA acquistions and Tucker as the DC. The Broncos have a lot of young players and can do better.
cyngato - January 24, 2012
Being a head coach and scheming your defense are totally different skills. See Dom Capers, Wade Philllips, and Mike Nolan – disaster head coaches who are fantastic DCs.
scooter17 - January 24, 2012
I am more concerned about his interactions with players.
He was very inconsistent. The story is he is also lazy, one of the last guys into the building. I really think he needs time to reflect. The Broncos can do better. I was the last person I know who wanted to fire Jack. Believe me when I say the fan base wanted him gone years ago. They did not even introduce him at most of the games this season because they knew he was going to be booed. JAX is not Philly. We are a pretty patient bunch.
cyngato - January 24, 2012
Jags D was ranked 6th this year with largely unknown players
Like scooter says, just because he’s a terrible HC doesnt mean he’s an incompetent DC
Calikula - January 24, 2012
Mel Tucker was the JAG DC
The new regime made a point of retaining Tucker even though he had been the acting interim HC. Most people here credit Tucker not Del Rio for the improvement in the JAG defense. We also got a few veteran FA that made a huge difference. Our secondary finally got some help at safety after years of being just awful.
cyngato - January 24, 2012
Had Mel Tucker been let go
He’d be at the top of my wish list. Dude did wonders with your defense this year
AlbertaBronc - January 24, 2012
GOD, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
:((((((((((((((
Matt In Canada - January 24, 2012
I like the Del Rio thing mostly because he was so disliked in Jacksonville that I seriously doubt anyone would poach him to make him a head coach anytime soon – he seems like he should just be a DC the rest of his career.
scooter17 - January 24, 2012
Wow, some of the comments on here have caught me off guard.
Coach Allen, congrats. For every person that has coached at any level, the dream is almost always to be the head coach of an NFL franchise. In this case, you are going to a team that has had hall of famers at almost every position and every level of administration. Congrats on the work you did here in Denver and we thank you for your time. You have a huge job ahead of you. Good luck.
Now, please go 2-14 for the next three years. Thanks.
quinnsdad - January 24, 2012
Well, now that he's a Raider, I hope he pulls a McD over there
Calikula - January 24, 2012
Maybe that is the learning we took from the Patriots
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
It is ironic that Allen gets a promotion each time he stinks at his last job
NO last game: His D got man handled by the Seahawks
DEN last game: His D got man handled by the Patriots
isiddiqi - January 24, 2012
Now that the "Well Sh!t" time has passed.
Nuts to losing another Defensive Coordinator. 7 in 7 years? Never before seen or heard. Movie stars don’t even remarry that often. Except, maybe, Liz Taylor.
However, I don’t see this being more than a minor hiccup. Coach Fox still runs this team and regardless of which side of the ball you coordinate on, he focuses on helping the defense. That’s the difference I feel between the last 6 years of change and this year. Regardless of whom is hired to run the defense, they will have the complete support of the head coach, in every respect.
Additionally, I disagree strongly with those saying McCoy’s loss would have been felt less. Nothing could be further from the truth while developing a young QB. Consistency breeds confidence and not every coach is the same. Tebow needs to focus on improving not learning a new coach and then improving.
Defense is see ball, hit ball and play with emotion. If Fox stays with the defense he knows, we’ll see minor changes to blitzes and coverages depending upon the new guys personality. I agree with those who would have liked better game plans against teams like New England, but I also know that Allen’s talent cupboard is a lot more bare than we all would like to admit. Therefore, I’m hopeful that we see a veteran hire who has good creativity in scheming and not someone who would introduce a new style of defense, i.e. 3-4 or Rahem Morris and the Cover-2. (Who wants to see Joe Mays covering deep middle? {shudder}). Thus my suggestion of Jack Del Rio, though admittedly not the most creative.
Mostly I am hopeful that our position coaches stay so our young players continue to hear the many of the same voices they seemed to respond well to last year.
P.S. Good luck to Dennis. Don’t care that he’s a Faider, it’s a tremendous opportunity for anyone to get one of 32 jobs in the world. Besides he’s going to need it in the years to come as the Broncos get stronger and the Raiders reel from the loss of one entire draft and projected being over the cap in the same off-season. Thank you Hue and Al!
Randall15 - January 24, 2012
Really wanted an HC job, but the Raiders ugh
DLMyers - January 24, 2012
Brian Dawkins.
Player/Coach
steve @water - January 24, 2012
If Ron Milus has DC potential
then I’d like to see Dawk as secondary coach
yibberat - January 25, 2012
Crappy news. How the hell can we improve on defense when we keep playing musical chairs with DC's?
Allen will regret this when he finds out that the Raiders are still a screwed up organization that throws coaches under the bus after a season. Hope that contract is airtight, buddy.
MrFNSunshine - January 25, 2012
If this carries on there should be a sign on the I-70 - "Honk if you've ever been a defensive coordinator for the Broncos"
British Bronco - January 25, 2012
Remember the last time 1 of our coordinators betrayed us by becoming the head coach for Oakland??
Worked out pretty well for us….
Donkeylover - January 25, 2012 via mobile
Allen might yet return to replace Fox when he's done.
I have a hard time believing that Allen is ready for this. Carson Palmer is a guy he’s stuck with, like New York is stuck with Melo, because of what they gave up for him. They have d*ck in upcoming drafts, a rookie GM, their BEST players are either injury prone, or holding guns to the heads of people where that’s apparently only good ‘ol horseplay. Seymore is aging, Bush is gone, Asomugha left, I can’t imagine Oakland being very attractive to FA’S.
Denver just won the West. Has a very stable, respected, defensively gifted head coach in Fox, I’m impressed by Elway. I think he’s impressing people around the league. Denver got a lot of exposure with all the Mile High Magic, national networks will be fighting over games next year, I can’t wait to see how we handle it!
I’m curious as to whether we might be able to draft talented players at a uniquely better value for our offense. It seems that some players(Demaryus Thomas) slip down the draft because they played in spread, option offenses and may take a few years to refine their skills. That’s where Denver is the least affected compared to virtually ANY other team. Such players should have a decent chance getting reps while developing. Especially for backup QB’s. UDFA’s should have some talented read option types of little value to other teams….
It’s a good time to be a Bronco’s fan!
Donkeylover - January 25, 2012 via mobile
This may be a dumb comment, however.....
growing up in Western NY, is Jim Haslet lookin’ for work?
broncosfan8769 - January 25, 2012
Jim Haslett is DC for the Redskins, currently working at senior bowl. Saw that yesterday.
Marvel Man - January 25, 2012
Good riddance.
Since he obviously wants to go and work for the Raiders…BYE!
9798 - January 25, 2012
Bad move for Allen
He goes to a team that has been very impatient with their HC (although that may change now with new management) and a team that very little to build on (no draft picks until the 4th round). He could also have used a few more years experience as DC before making the leap.
Oh well, let’s move on…He is now the ennemy…
macklure - January 25, 2012
In the short term...
I really hope that McKenzie encourages a switch to the 3-4. He mentioned it in Allen’s introductory press conference – dismantling that front 4 would be great for us IMO.
Muse_Cubed - January 25, 2012
If that happens, maybe we could steal a disgrunted player or two :)
macklure - January 25, 2012
I agree, I think it's a lose, lose, lose situation
But we’re not the biggest loser in this. Raiders hired an inexperienced coach, which should mean the odds of him failing are greater than him succeeding. If it does fail, then Allen’s reputation as being a viable head coach will take a major step back. We lose a bit because of consistency, but as many have pointed out, Fox is a pretty good D guy.
eastCOrange&Blue - January 25, 2012
True that. I am not very concerned either. I would have liked if he stayed, but keeping stability at HC is much more important.
macklure - January 25, 2012
But these are different times.
Al Davis is gone… the GM is from GB… and I assume he hand selected Allen. So my guess is that he will ride with Allen for at least a couple seasons. If Allen doesnt show anything in 2 years with a young team that is built to be good now…. then he deserves to be removed.
Triz06 - January 25, 2012
I agree. Davis gone might change things, but it is a risky move.
Unfortunately for Allen, having chosen the Raiders, I hope he fails
