and everyone here being VERY (understandably!) charged up right now, you’re probably not going to get much traction on that comment. But I give McD credit for the good things he did — I don’t think he was the complete failure many those of here do. He was a nearly complete embarrassment in many ways…but not a complete failure for what he contributed to the team
…. that was looking for traction. It was question because I am curious if people on this fan site really dislike him that much that they can’t give a little credit for bringing in Tebow or Thomas, etc.
thought McD did much more right here than he did wrong… but completely agree that he needed to go.
So yes, I give him a ton of the credit for our success this year, just like I give him a ton of criticism for the way his hyper-manic personality led to collapse last year. McD did a good job of bringing in a system to build around, but a poor job of managing the off-field PR and emotions through turbulent times and young players.
So getting credit for doing more right than wrong, and still deserving to be canned are not mutually exclusive in my book.
No. We had an amazing young core of players on offense
and all we were asking for was defense. He tore the heart and soul out of this franchise, took down the memories of the super bowl rings, tried his damndest to turn us into Patriots West, was responsible for a horrendous 09 draft, and many, many, other sins. F@@k McD
hmmmmmmm, I think the coaches are quitting on Tebow. They don’t really look like they deserve to be in the playoffs after backing in with an 8-8 record….
Mike Shanahan’s demise (I was and will always still be appreciative for what he did for Denver)
Cutlergate
McDaniels Era
Videotaping Scandal.
But here we are, beating the Steelers after everyone told us this week that we’d get trucked. We come together and put a great Effort and send the Steelers home.
My tears started welling up when DT ran over the end line. All those years since 2005, and the heartache we all have had to endure:
- Season ending defeats and collapses of epic proportions
- The too-early deaths of three young Broncos
- The McDaniels / Kyle Orton era
- McJayGate (Ugh, I hate typing anything with “gate” at the end of it)
This night is one of the happiest times I’ve had as a Broncos fan, and I’ll always hold this up there with the late-80’s heyday when we regularly beat the Browns. Even if we lose next Saturday, tonight made this season a success, in my eyes. Anything else is a bonus.
You can hear one of the players yelling “Optimus Prime!” after Fox hugs DT! The lions can keep Megatron, We got Prime!!!! I loved watching this…I was so mad at Verizon when my DVR cut off right before the final play of regulation….but I got to see the game winner on NFL Network Gameday, so all is forgiven Verizon FiOS
THIS is what this 'game' is all about. These moments. For players and fans. The world is righted. Same feeling when my children were born. Just....glorious
The funny thing is over at the Steeler’s site they were complaining about getting jobbed over Harrison being held on the last play…I’m like dude…we had 3 facemasks, 2 holds on Dumerville, and a mysteriously reveresed fumble from those refs and YOU got jobbed? F off please…the game wouldn’t have been in OT if they were doing a half-way decent job.
I’m so happy that the Broncos players are enjoying this win. THEY EARNED IT. It was the best played game they’ve had this season, no question.
Over lunch today I was explaining to my wife how Fox bucked the trend and changed the scheme to meet the capabilities of his players. I told her how rare that is in the NFL, and how it earned my respect. He didn’t sit back and blame his players when things went rough, and he’s willing to take risks to be successful. He’s always so serious on the sidelines (as most coaches are) but it was great to see him enjoy what they’ve worked so hard to do. Kudos to the players and to Fox for their trust, guts, and determination to earn the win today!
I told myself halfway through the game that I’d be okay even if the Broncos lost. They’ve come SO FAR since the off season. Winning – especially like that – was the proverbial icing on the cake. It tastes sweet!
Now they have to do it all over again next week. Win or lose, I’m proud of the team today, and I’m very hopeful for our future. I’ve always been a fan, but I haven’t felt like this about our team in many, many years.
I’m not so sure we pull that off with Keisel, Hampton, Woodley, Pouncey, Clark, and Mendenhall playing all game. But here’s the beauty of our 2011 Denver Broncos team…. I’m not so sure we don’t pull it off anyways. This team is bringing truth to the mantra, “any given Sunday!!!”
Awesome game man…. I just think it’s another team’s turn to rule the AFC.
story of the season really. You have no idea how shocked I still am that this team won 12 games. It really says a lot about some of the players. But, your guys took advantage of everything they could.
I’m so proud of what this team has accomplished. They ARE role models. Not because of the win, but how they’ve come together under adversity and worked harder than anyone else (no offense, BTSC)…
Oh momma don’t you cry,
Broncos football is do or die!
Pittsburgh went into La-La Land,
DT had the ball in his hands.
Put some Gatorade in his glass,
We just kicked your **** @$$!!!!!
(adapted from an old USA boxing locker room chant)
The Broncos beat the Pittsburgh Steelers- the #1 defense in the NFL. That my friends is not an easy task- I don’t care how banged up they are. I was not sold on the Tebow draft pick. I honestly thought they should have drafted defense. But I’ll tell you what. Today Tebow joined the NFL GO BRONCOS
I watched this video three times. I teared up, too.
Still having the Dez vs Thomas debate with my friends. I thought it was over when I said that Dez has one 100 yard receiving game in his life… and Thomas has three this year – after missing five games. They still don’t see it.
I know DT has one check on his record (from last summer), but you don’t hear from him otherwise hardly at all. Dez has his ways…ah — who cares? We win!!!
While I didn’t post over here this week, I wanted to congratulate the Broncos fan on the win and thank those of you who spent the week over at BTSC. I’m sure I can’t speak for all of Steeler Nation, but…. your team played a helluva game today and deserved the win. I’ll always and endlessly be proud of my Steelers and view this as just a bump in our long and winding road to #7.
Congrats again! Enjoy for a day and focus on those pesky Pats.
I was talking negatively about Pitt fans as some of the most obnoxious in the NFL in some previous posts based on my observations in bars here in DC… but you all from BTSC have proven me completely wrong. Nothing but class from you all!
It was so hard to not check the score while I was at work and boy am I glad I didn’t. This game was so fun to watch with all the suspense. Tebow played really well against a darn good defense even with their injuries. I’m very excited to see what he and the team does against the Pats!
