10 months ago: ENGLEWOOD, CO - JULY 28: Dennis Allen, Defensive Coordinator of the Denver Broncos directs the defense during training camp at the Paul D. Bowlen Memorial Broncos Centre at Dove Valley on July 28, 2011 in Englewood, Colorado. (Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)
The success of the Denver Broncos is starting to catch the attention of teams with vacant head coach positions. Last week we learnt that Mike McCoy was going to interview with the Jaguars for their head coaching slot. Now tonight, according to Jim Thomas, a St. Louis Rams beat writer, this came out.
Whoops! Brain fart. It's Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen interviewing with Rams on Thursday for head-coaching job.
— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) January 10, 2012

The brain fart he speaks of is he said that Allen was the offensive coordinator the first time which he is not obviously.
Allen will interview Thursday for the position. This news comes as a bit of a surprise because of Jeff Fisher looking more and more like he will take the Rams vacant position.
Fans will question why Allen is supposed to be interviewing this Thursday since the Broncos have a game this Saturday night against the Patriots. Mike McCoy's interview with the Jags got bumped back to next week because of the win. However, Gary Miller tweeted that Dennis Allen can and will interview this Thursday. No panic is needed however from fans as by the time Thursday roles around for a Saturday game, the game plan is already installed allowing the perfect time for Allen to interview and be back in Denver for the playoff gave vs the Pats.
It would be an unfortunate loss for the Broncos as they would continue to have to start from scratch with a new coordinator every year since 2005. Since 2006, the Broncos have gone through Larry Coyer, Jim Bates, Bob Slowik, Wink Martindale and Mike Nolan.
Again, this came from a beat writer and could be fabricated possibly forcing Fisher's hand as his decision is expected to come early this week possibly as soon as tomorrow.

What is it with St. Louis and wanting coaches from Denver?
Hopefully Joshy McBubblescreen left a bad taste in their mouth and they’ll pass on Dennis Allen. St Louis is to Denver coaches what Denver is to former Patriots players…:-P
DominantDenverDefense - January 9, 2012
stan kroenke?
skithebert - January 10, 2012
I think Allen is awesome in his role right now
But he is not ready for an HC job yet. He needs some seasoning. If they take Allen, it will be a detriment to all involved. In a couple years, I expect Allen to truly have a legit shot at HC, if he wants it. Remember, it is considered a service to a coach to interview them for an HC job, even if they are extremely unlikely to get it. Bowlen had a brain fart and took an unseasoned guy in McDaniels and we know the result. Allen has a much better personality than McD and would probably not blow the organization up in two years, but still…

gobroncos3 - January 9, 2012
Agreed
Fisher is gong to be the guy. Jacksonville will also go after a big name coach. Allen is here to stay. Why leave to a losing franchise when Denver is in contention for championships?
Bentley.Ketchum - January 9, 2012
Interviews happen all the time folks
No need to panic, in all likelyhood, this is where Fischer is going anyway.
Bronco Mike - January 9, 2012
This is what I came to post.
Fisher → LA Rams
Bustafluff - January 9, 2012
I've actually heard that if the Rams move to LA, Fischer won't want to go with them.
Bronco Mike - January 9, 2012
I heard the same thing
Hopefully, the Rams have every intention to stay in St. Louis.
Horsepower - January 9, 2012
Just so long as it does not mean the Chargers move up from SD
I may have to slit my wrists or something. It is bad enough with them in SD… Only thing worse would be to have the scumbag Raiders move here. I would rather have no franchise than one of those two. I will take Jacksonville. I will take an expansion team. Heck, I would take a semi-pro team before those two!
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
look at the bright side
if the Dolts and Faiders both move back to Angeleno Land, that’s 2 Broncos games you can go to every year :)
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Sorry. I am not going to subject myself or my family to Raiders fans
There are enough of those fools on the road. I do not need to see them gathered together and drunk to boot. I have been to several Dolts/Bronco games over the years. It is not really all that far away and I am more than happy to drive there (no need to bring them closer). I cannot blame the owner for not liking to play in that stadium. It is simply not big enough and it is laid out poorly, which is why it will never again host a SB.
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
the San Diegans
are no longer worthy to have an NFL team, they don’t sell out Qualcomm any time San Diego falls below .500, but no, don’t let your family be around Faiders fans, they’re all out for parole Sunday afternoons at 1:00 PST then they report back to their cells
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Good for him.
Remember that Del Rio coached the D for FOx in Carolina.
and isn’t our LB coach carolina’s old D coordinator Rivera canned?

I doubt he'll get the job. Last year he was a Secondary coach.
ST Louis will hire an experienced coach to turn things around.
Zac Man - January 9, 2012

Well Sean Payton was pissed when we stole him too.

my thoughts exactly
veggiezaffer - January 9, 2012

This is an honor for Allen, but I doubt he is ready for this leap. He has the makings of a great coach, he just needs experience (hmmm that sounds familiar)
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
Every situation is different
But the hand picked successors rarely work out, especially recently. Promoting from within has mixed results, but mostly positive. If Allen is still here when Fox is ready to go, it looks like it would be a good choice, right now.
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
Hopefully this is just a compliance from the Rams with the Rooney Rule.
Broncs4ever - January 9, 2012
Lol
He may be a minority in that he’s a good defensive coordinator hired by the Broncos, but beyond that, I don’t think the Rooney Rule applies to Dennis Allen. I could be wrong …

Interesting, one of the things on his resume was that he played in Breaking Benjamin
Zac Man - January 9, 2012

Who are these chicks in the pic?
Bentley.Ketchum - January 9, 2012
Obviously the band Breaking Benjamin
who’s frontman looks very similar to our own Dennis Allen.
and nice try on the diss.

I don't see the resemblance
and what did Benjamin exactly break? His man cherry? Did he let his boy toy break him willingly? My bet is on yes.

but i dont think he’s yet qualified. last year he was DB coach. is he really ready for HC after only a year at DC.. for our sake i hope not.
veggiezaffer - January 9, 2012

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
The other thing I don’t like about this is it has to be a distraction, if not for the players and the team, but for Allen as well. How can he have his head in the game against the Pats when he’s preparing for an interview and flying back and forth between Denver, St. Louis and Boston?
go4broncos - January 9, 2012 via mobile
Why doesnt he just decline then?
You’re in the playoffs dude, keep focused!!!!
Calikula - January 9, 2012
cant blaim him
for wanting to interview for HC, prolly dreaming about it for years. but it would be good to wait till after the playoffs
veggiezaffer - January 9, 2012
He could at least show the organization some respect and wait til after the season.
This is a piss poor move IMO.
Calikula - January 9, 2012
bahh it is a big deal
It is unlikely he will be offered the job, but getting his name considered in the ring may be a major factor for his career in the coming years. Besides, if the rumors are true, this may be his only chance this year. By next week, we may know for sure that Fisher is the coach and the opportunity may be gone. This happens to playoff teams every year. It is nothing egregious. Allen seems like a stand up guy, so I am not going to start slinging mud about for something that should not be a big deal for us right now.
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
take me for instance
I am a professional broadcaster/journalist who does not get paid because I work for my dad and he doesn’t pay me. The economy sucks so I don’t really have any other opportunities and the media isn’t really hiring right now. If I can get my name out there, it helps exponentially so in that regard, I don’t have a problem with Allen interviewing and getting his feet wet. Of course, I want him to stay as any Broncos fan would but in a free market economy you have the right to assess your options
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Exactly
First thing I thought of was “dsitraction” from a huge playoff game.
Did the Broncos have to allow the interview in the midde of a playoff week, or were they just being nice guys again?

Success breeds success
I would love to keep all of our guys in place, hell I was pretty close to the front of the Mike McCoy hating bandwagon, but I have to admit that he and Tebow have chemistry and continuity is key to our continued success next year and beyond. Pay the coordinators the money to keep them in place with us!
JALefor - January 9, 2012
McCoy follows game plans and ideology of the HC
McD and Fox are totally different and he’s adapted to both of them and to Tebow. He’s fine; keep the guy.
Boiler etc - January 9, 2012
sheesh
why is he even interviewing after one season? And in the week when we’re trying to prepare for New England? Not impressed with his priorities.
tunesmith - January 9, 2012
Exactly
One whole season as DC and already wants to move up. I could understand if our season was over, but we’re preparing for NE, the team that absolutely smoked him last time. You would think he’d be focused on getting ready for that, not for a wolf ticket HC job. He’s not gonna get the job anyway, not after only a year as a DC.
Calikula - January 9, 2012
It is an honor and a big stepping stone
Once his name is in the ring, it will be in the ring for years to come. There are only 32 teams with HC positions and only a handful are available each year. Just having your name out there is a big deal for these coaches. He seems like a stand-up guy, so give him the benefit of the doubt here.

It seems every time one of them leaves, there is instant hatred between the two. In fact, after McD’s actions after beating the Pats, I am surprised he is being welcomed back. Perhaps it is not as rosy as it seems… Either way, I would rather have Allen make up his own mind rather than have Fox tell him how it is going to be…

Relax, this is how you get on the map in the NFL
Unless he just absolutely blows someone away he’s at least 2 more years away from a HC spot. I see more teams opting for the seasoned vets than the past few years. The McD , Haley, Morris young coach movement has slowed IMO.
asinsoin - January 9, 2012
Yes asin, but its still a distraction
He shouldnt be flying back and forth when were heading to NE for a chance to go to the Conference championships. He needs to be here everyday, worrying about how Brady and Hernandez absolutely smoked the broncos the last time they played each other
Calikula - January 9, 2012
Completely agree with that Cal...he needs to be totally focused on the Pats
And not preparing for an interview on Thursday! I just doubt that he has much of a shot at the HC role…but then I’ve been wrong 4 times already today according to my wife.
asinsoin - January 9, 2012
Hard to argue with those results. 0 for 4, yikes!
This could just be a rumor after all and maybe DA will do the honorable thing and decline or wait til after the seasons over because lets be real, he cant be ready after just 1 season as DC. Hopefully he recognizes that too and waits like Shanny did

The Front Office...
Has to allow him to be interviewed due to contractual obligations. It creates hype about the man which in turn brings more media spotlight to the Denver defense. Allen will not get hired buy anyone. Elway and Xanders has to allow him to interview. This is a PR move my Elway and Fox to tell the football world we’re making the right decisions.

I don't like this, not for us possibly seeing him leave, but for his career
This afterall is his first stint as defensive coordinator. He hasn’t been as high as he is in the coaching tree yet. How can he possibly be ready to be a head coach?
There’s a lot more to being a head coach than X’s and O’s. McD took the job too soon as he wasn’t ready either. You can damage your career if you get in over your head. Stick with what you’re good at for awhile, learn from older wiser coaches whom can mentor you, then go after it!
Broncs55 - January 9, 2012
DC
I sure would like to see Denver keep a DC for more than one season. I hope this is PR B.S. I don’t see us moving any coaches this year. Or at least I hope not..

the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Let's look at the bright side
the Broncos went from the 2nd overall pick to at least 25th and both our coordinators are being interviewed for head coaching jobs. This means we must be doing something right.
AlbertaBronc - January 10, 2012
Ahhhh there it is... I knew someone had to have a positive attitude out there!
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
Ok...
#1. He is more than likely to be intervieweing for the position IN denver. (Rams owner Kroenke also owns the Nuggets, Avalanche, Crush, Mommoths, and Rapids, all colorado teams) And he has a nice house in Denver.
#2. Thursday is travel day to NE, so really worst case is he’s going to be a couple hours behind on arriving.
Chuck "DeadDrunk" Breedlove - January 10, 2012
Let's take a couple of steps back
-Dennis Allen has been a DC for only one year
-Previously he was a DB coach
-The Broncos have the 20th ranked defense by Total Yards, 32nd the year before. A good move in the right direction, but it’s not like they jumped into the top 10.
I’m not knocking Allen’s resume, but I think that most organizations would see him as too green.
And BTW, why would any professional use the expression ‘Brain F*rt’ in a tweet? I’ve heard people use it in meetings at work. I find it to be one of the crassest utterances one could use.
NYCBronx - January 10, 2012
I'm flattered people see his worth
but this makes me mad!!! Back the heck off of our DC mane!!!! And no doubt….. “brain fart?” reporting at it’s finest right there.
PaleHorse78 - January 10, 2012
I love Twitter
but to new “journalists,” i.e, those who have graduated from college within the past five years, it is a hindrance as most of them did more Tweeting in college than learning journalistic skills. I represent the last generation of real reporting. Technology has spoiled the rising generation
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
Lots of disinformation floating around. NFL Politics at work.
metalman5050 - January 10, 2012

Ravens DC – Chuck Pagano
Steelers DC – Dick LeBeau
Giants DC – Perry Fewell
I like our DC but we need more consistency and we still need to build upon our identity!
CraigMorton07 - January 10, 2012
This is for experience purposes
How many of you out there has ever interviewed for a Head Coaching job in the NFL. How would you know what this interview process will be like if you’ve never done it? I know my very first job interview was a disaster. But now I can interview with the best of them. This is a smart move for DA. He will most likely get a head coaching job in the future. Best to get the butterflies out of the way and get some experience in interviewing for the job of your dreams.
DaLostBoy4 - January 10, 2012
yeah but doing it when you should have all of your focus on preparing your team for the next opponent?
This isn’t just some throw away game. That time spent preparing for an interview, traveling, wining and dining should be spent watching more film and making sure your guys are focused and executing. This is a distraction IMO
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
It is part of the job
Every playoff team contends with it.
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
true and most candidates (at least the classier ones imo) defer their interviews until their season is over.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
After all that Allen has done for us this year, he is suddenly classless for accepting an interview
It may be his ONLY chance this year and Kroenke has tons of sports connections. Elway probably had a hand in getting him the interview in the first place. Fisher is probably going to take the job, but this is a big deal for Allen. Would you want Champ to turn down an HOF induction ceremony? Would you want B-Dawk to miss his daughter’s wedding? The Game Plan will be done and installed. It is probably very similar to the one we failed to execute a few weeks ago. This is on travel day! Allen is definitely not the first coach to do this and he will not be the last. He has shown himself to be anything but classless, so I say give him the benefit of the doubt.
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
I never said he is classless. I just said others were classier.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
The entire thread is a complaint about his LACK OF CLASS for interviewing right now
I think you are dancing around the words here. You clearly imply there is a lack of class on Allen’s part for this. I call that BS. You are backing away from that comment because when it is written out clearly, even you can see it is BS.
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
he made our defense outstanding
that and the fact he has been better than McDaniels shows he is classy, he deserves the benefit of the doubt, I’ve never met the guy
the new Bradfather - January 10, 2012
I think it is not a classy move. I think it is classier when coaches tell prospective employers to wait until their season is over.
I love Dennis Allen and think he is a phenomenal coach. I just very much disagree with interviewing for another job while your team is still playing for a championship.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
and whoever said he had to turn anything down? I'm happy he's getting the opportunity but I've
never had an interview where the interviewer was unwilling to accommodate my schedule. If the Rams are truly interested in Allen then they would be willing to wait until his season is over to interview him IMO.
I just said I’m disappointed in the decision to interview during the playoffs when all the focus should be on the team and the people we are playing against. Is that too much to ask for?
And what does Champ turning down an induction have anything to do with this? Nobody is asking Allen to turn anything down. I’m only asking him to reschedule his interview. Sheesh.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
Clearly you have never interviewed for a high demand job before
The NFL has just a handful of coaching jobs available. I agree that it seems like clubs would be better served to conduct thorough searches and wait for coaches that are on playoff contenders. It is unclear why, but most do not. Those that do have a vacancy and wait are portrayed as bad places to coach and passed over by the real candidates. Most clubs with a vacancy want to fill it before the SB. In this case, the interview is most likely a nod toward Allen. His resume is not likely long enough to have him in serious contention. There are rumblings that the Rams’ vacancy may be filled this week. If the Rams are champing at the bit to get their guy, Allen may NOT BE ABLE TO WAIT for this chance.
With the connections between Elway and Kroenke, do you really think the FO is against this? If they are not, why are you?
Da Bum - January 10, 2012
Not an NFL coaching job but yes a high demand job and I had to reschedule an interview twice actually because of prior committments. They were very accommodating.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
It doesn't bother me that he is interviewing for the position. It really bothers me that he is doing during a playoff run.
I don’t care if the game plan is in place. What does this say to your players if you are willing to interview for another job while you should be with your team focused on the next opponent. You can’t put all your focus on the next game if you are preparing for an interview.
What would the coaches think if a player decided to go to a book signing during the week of a playoff run… or play in a celebrity golf tournament?
This bothers me. At least McCoy had the decency and respect for the team and his players to push his interview back while we’re in the playoffs still.
BroncoMath101 - January 10, 2012
