Would love to see Denver bring back Portis on a vet minimun deal.

That would be a key acquisition

I think it’d be well worth it!

Portis is well over 2000 carries in his career though

rule of thumb with RB’s is don’t touch after 2000 carries and Portis is like 200 carries over that mark. He’s done.

Thanks for the Tracks!

I have often wondered what last year would have been like, had either Gaffney or Lloyd stayed with the team (especially Gaff, since he was more understanding of Tebow’s ability to extend plays). One veteran presence outside of Eddie may have made a huge difference, but could have also hindered the young’uns development.

Interesting article about TTs mechanics. Talk about beating a dead horse. TTs throwing is compared to

Shaq’s free-throw abilities. I’ll take that…how many world championships did Shaq win ‘despite his free throw shortcomings?
I believe TT is a good to very good passer. He has shown me remarkable touch on many of his difficult passes (with some real lame ducks in between to be sure) but enough of the well thrown, “how did he get it in there?” kinda passes to tell me he’s got what it takes. I’m not worried about the long wind-up, that will be negated with experience and improved anticipation that comes with playing and maturing. The footwork is the key and it’s obvious that he’s willing to put in the time and work it takes to improve that (and that can be improved). All it takes for a great QB is: 1. A coach that believes in you. 2. Great Work ethic. 3.Offense that matches up with your strengths, 4. Supreme confidence and will to win, and 5. Skill.
TT has what it takes, as long as the coaches provide him with what he needs.

pittsburgh game

cracked me right up, how a lot of the talking heads were pining that tebow still completed less than 50%. i mean, were they watching? his QB rating was 125!

that aside, to get tebow to around 60% we’re talking 3 or 4 more completions per game. my four things to get us there overnight:

1. better footwork from tebow (this actually improved a lot during last season, but it should get better).
2. receivers running tighter initial routes (yes, there’ll be freelancing with tim, but in the first few seconds of passing plays, receivers weren’t getting open like they will be with more experience and practice)
3. receivers need to catch better (yep.)
4. offensive scheme needs at least some basic outlet options and tebow needs to see them better when they’re supplied

four for four. four easy fixes to get us four more completions per game that wouldn’t even require tebow to improve his throwing. (imagine when that happens!).

Agreed oxmouth, and I had not even considered your

#s 2 & 3. WRs played a significant part in some of the passing games problems. I believe they are a talented bunch but they did drop a lot of passes and because of their youth who knows how many bad routes were run? It’s interesting how much experience plays a role in making a team better. I also wonder how many guys with higher passing % also had a higher interception rate? In my mind, an interception is much more damaging than a lower passing % (up to a point of course). That would be an interesting study: Determine how many passing % points does it take to become more detrimental than an interception? After all, Jay Cutler and Jake Plummer both had higher passing % than TT but their pattern (partic. Plummer) for throwing the ill-advised, ill-time interceptions were killers both in points and for the general psyche of the team.

Re:the Gaffney and Lloyd "what if" article...

can you imagine the potential locker room issues from a guy like Lloyd if he was in the offense with TT last year? He would have been so unhappy and moody because not enough balls were being thrown, let alone thrown his way. My crystal ball does not have to be that clear for me to see how that would have come about. The fact that the front office let both of them go is the best indicator that they fully expected 2011 to be a rebuilding year and certainly did not expect to win the West or go to the playoffs. I too loved Lloyd but he would not have fit into the personality of the team. Gaffney…well, I liked the guy too but I believe that Royal or even “watcha talking ’bout” Willis were his equal in our O last year. Plus, all of our guys got one more year of experience on the field. My take? No looking back with regret, unless only to be grateful for the fun year that it was.

While talking "what if" about Lloyd

Imagine if Marshall were still here!

soap opera level drama for sure!
