KB Rant: Tim Tebow, Maria Menounos, Super Bowl, and Knowshon Moreno

And just like that, the season is over. With the Super Bowl just coming to a close and a full 45 minutes since I last read or watched a Tim Tebow story, now's the perfect time for another KB Rant.

Let the offseason drama begin. No, there's no slipping on a McDonalds wrapper or domestic assault, today... just a DUI and "flirting". I have a feeling we'll be seeing more and more stories about what Tim Tebow is doing as the offseason drags on. Is he throwing the football in an indoor practice facility or Tebowing with gorgeous television personalities? Did he chew his nails or pop his knuckles? And on and on and on...

It's getting ridiculous.

Didn't it seem like just yesterday when we were making season predictions and gobbling down daily morsels of Kirk Davis' Training Camp coverage? My, oh my, has this season flown by... We thought Tebow mania was bad before Tim was the starter, but I don't think we've seen anything yet. Back then, we were still talking about Kyle Orton. Looking back on everything, though, seems like it was all just a blur. We benched Kyle Orton, cut him, rode a winning streak with Tim Tebow at the helm, won a playoff game and were blown out by the Patriots before I could bat an eye.

With that in mind, I think it's time to rant.

Let's start with Tim Tebow's love life. (rolls eyes) Don't worry, we'll get to the DUI talk in a little while.

Star-divide

Tim Tebow Should Date (blank)

Please, stop.

I can't tell you how much chatter I've seen on twitter about who Tebow should date (Katy Perry, Maria Menounos, Lindsay Vonn, my friend's sister, etc.). Of course, they say "should", as if people outside of Tim Tebow's personal circle would know what's best for the 24 year old quarterback.

Come on, people. Back off and let Tim Tebow be Tim Tebow. If he wants to date, fine. If not, fine. It's his life.

With that said, if we're so forward about interjecting our opinions, what say we consider the consequences? How about looking at the future Hall of Fame quarterback, Tom Brady. He met his wife, Gisele, in late 2006. How many Super Bowl rings does he have before meeting her? 3. How many Super Bowl rings did he earn since then? 0.

I'm not saying that the correlation is the causation, here, but I will say that if you believe Tim Tebow should eliminate distractions and also date (insert name here), then you're talking out both sides of your mouth.

Oh, and another thing... what's with the public statements from Gisele? Throwing the teammates of your husband is never warranted. Never. Would you like if your husband or wife called your boss and told them off? Absolutely not.

And then I was presented with this link. What do I have to say about that? Um... okay. He can "Tebow" with whoever he wants. He's 24 years old. It shouldn't be worldbreaking when he gets down on a knee (to pray). Although, I could see how earthshattering it may seem to a young lady who had hopes of capturing the attention of the young Tebow. Sorry ladies... maybe the Maria Menounos thing won't work out? The power of positive thinking (or prayer).

After this playful invitation, Tebow reportedly got down on one knee and tebowed with Maria Menounos. Apparently, it was the first time he has ever "tebowed" with anyone else. I find that hard to believe. If he has ever been in the presence of a church congregation, he has prayed with other people around.

Oh well. On to the next thing.

Super Bowl XLVI

I was worried. I thought for sure that the Patriots would roll over the Giants. Especially when they scored on the opening drive of the second half. The Giants were burned a few times early when their linebackers had to go in one on one pass protection against the Patriots tight ends or Wes Welker. Then they switched to a zone and were willing to be killed by a thousand cuts. Fortunately, that's when the Giants' front 4 took over. Tom Brady looked like he could have used a few classes from the Tim Tebow school of scrambling.

Aside from the halftime show and the postgame Gisele comments, the Super Bowl was pretty entertaining. It was a real football game with real football drama. I'm amazed that Ahmad Bradshaw failed to go to a knee. I'm shocked that Wes Welker dropped the ball. I'm completely overjoyed that the referees didn't ruin the game.

It was a great night for football. Congratulations to the Giants and their fans on a wonderful season. Hopefully, the Broncos will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy this time next year.

Knowshon Moreno

Free Agency is a little bit more than a month away. I'm interested to see, in the coming weeks, what we plan on doing with guys like Knowshon Moreno. If you ask me, I say cut him immediately. I feel the same way that I did when Chris Simms was found driving a vehicle while stoned. It's an unbelievably selfish act and I'm saddened that it happened.

Knowshon should be held accountable and should be cut, in my opinion. For all the hooplah that Roger Goodell and the NFL raise over players illegally hitting other players, I think that arrests should be punished much more so. DUIs should be high on the list. Not only are you putting your own life in danger, you put the lives of others in danger.

I thought the days of arrests were gone when Brandon Marshall and Perrish Cox left. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Knowshon Moreno wins the award for first NFL player arrested in the 2012 offseason. I hope he's the last, as well.

Actually there is a Tebow story

in El Paso, Texas, where I served for many months on the Mormon mission, a pastor in the borderlands has reached out to Tebow to help bring prestige to his Church, we shall see how this goes. I assume it will be in tomorrow’s Horse Tracks. As for Maria Menonous, she is a cutie and she responds to me so I blush, but that Giants bikini was not a bad look at all:), When you have NFL Network, illustrious Troy, the season NEVER ends, Combine coverage, February 23, Indianapolis. Plus, Sayre will inundate us with his innumerable mock drafts, if you feel deprived of your football the next couple of months, it’s your own fault.

hmmmm.... interesting. Maybe Tebow can come to my church someday....

So Tebow is suppose to help bring presitge to his Church or THE Church? And is it a mormon church?

It is not a Mormon Church in El Paso

it’s an evangelical organization, some of the members of which I knew quite well 10 years ago, it is to bring prestige to Abundant Life Living Center, sorry for the ambiguity

Apparently Moreno's Bentley...

Has a license plate of “SAUCED.”

Sadly, not a joke.

That one expired

he has a new one on order “BUST”

Or....

XBRONCO

That's a good one...
BUST&HURT
My license plate for Moreno

<ORAKPO

+ INFINITY!!!!!!!!!!!

I was standing in REI in Denver watching the picks on my phone and when I saw Orakpo available I started screaming like a little kid saying we got him! And then… I started yelling at my phone, a sad day, and then later that day at the Rockies game, I saw… WTF!!!!?! We traded up for Dick Quinn…

McDaniels Just needed More Time!

Which perfectly explains why he was so aggressive at the 2009 draft. Because he hadn’t had time to property scout the draft.

Oh wait… It’s because he was a child with a kid in the candy store mentality.

I actually had to fight a lot of battles at MHR saying why the 2009 draft was such a debacle back at the time. I actually had people telling me the Phonz trade was a good one for Denver. They even gave reasons.

People can apparently convince themselves of anything.

So true

You are convinced Franklin is a bust after all

No. He is as good in the run game as I expected. He did better is pass protect (although not vs the Pats in the playoffs).

I’d still like to see him at OG instead of RT. He could be a well above average OG. Kuper and Franklin would make an awesome guard combo for us.

Let Ryan Harris return to his role as RT. Keep Beadles around as your 6th O-linemen.

he's kind of tall or an OG but I sure would like to see him on the D-Line.
No Kidding McG

Remember this?

JeffG should have listened to me.

when I heard the story on they radio I thought

they said his plate said “SOFT”

The thing about Gisele...

She said what most football wives likely want to say…. the difference, she is the one QB-wife that is MORE of a global icon than her husband. That provides her the vehicle to do what these other wives and girlfriends cannot…..

Not saying it is right, but would probably be much more prevalent if other QBs marries global brands…

We ran into this a bit with Eric Decker's girlfriend during the season when Tebow missed a few passes and Decker had a few drops.

The Gisele story was taken to a whole other level, though. Loved ones do talk back when they’re provoked, but given the Super Bowl spotlight and her status as a major celebrity, the story blew up.

anger management

is getting out of control, this from an individual who has had to suppress numerous anger issues, when you add paparazzi and taunting G-Men fans to the mix, it can swiftly spiral out of control. Public officials simply have to be cognizant of their surroundings at all times, tis the price of fame

Would you really call what Gisele said a "display of anger" that's in need of some "managing?"

Obviously she shouldn’t have said it. But this, like so many other things in the media, is being blown out of proportion. It’s silly.

I suppose my comment

revolves more around her status as a public official, no it isn’t fair, but when you have that much prestige, the MSM will do what they will do. I am a member, ignominiously, of this group, although I have much more restraint than many of those tools, yes, it is being blown out of proportion, but at this stage, while the maxim is true, it is irrelevant

Public official ?

Highness of Hotness ? Mayor of Modeltown ? Secretary of Sexyness?

The thing about her is

She is a wife and was defending her husband. Thats it. And other than hurting a few feelings, why shouldnt she? Right or wrong. And if her words are enough to cause any sort of problems in the locker room, then there is definetly something else going on…She doesnt need to be managed. I pity the fool who trys to tell my wife she cant offer her opinion. lol

Thanks for the rant Troy.

I think Tebow knows what he wants in life in a woman and will find one some day. I just hope when he get’s to Dove Valley they start immediately working on his technique and timing with the receivers…

As cheap as Moreno is, I would give him one more chance and that’s it. He get’s hurt this year, bye-bye…

Moreno...

If moreno does get cut, who else in the 09 draft class is still on the roster other than ayers?

Jeremy Bates

joins Cuntler in the Windy City, expect lots of points and turnovers, meaning no clutch wins, the Chicago defense is getting old

Cee You Next Tuesday.

That is the worst bad word of them all Brad. I don’t want to see that coming from your mouth.

There will be no more box seats for you when I’m GM if you keep up with such language.

Sorry McGeorge :(

Crybaby Jay does the trick.

Or Custer.

Or Triple Chin.

We’ll all know whom you are talking about.

that's what I'll do then

no need for me to be a horse’s south end, I’m better than that

QB Triple Chin is pretty nasty if you’re feeling that way.

Epic!

QB Triple chin throwing a triumvirate of pick sixes against the Lions, I see potential…

One chin for every red zone pick.

A lot of points?

Or yards?

Good. Now I hope that Lovie gets Jay an offensive line and some real WRs.

Won’t matter because that would come at the expense of an expensive D, which Chicago would forfeit in order to upgrade their offense.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too triple chin.

also

why do we care how Custer feels, he’s not a Bronco, he metaphorically flipped us off, go have fun in a critical media market a-hole

us who? You got a Josh McDaniels in your pocket?
Im with him. So that makes 2 of us.

I think you’re about the only one still wanting Custer back. Get over it bro he’s gone. He wanted out, and like Dennis Allen, I say good riddance

I'm in.

Even if we could trade Tebow for Cutler, no thanks.

I never said trade Tebow for Cutler

my point is…..the blame for that horrible situation goes directly on Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels.

The only person that Cutler gave the finger to was Josh McDaniels! Rightfully so because Josh McDaniels was an immature, insecure and inexperienced little man that completely destroyed the chance of a lifetime.

You're not seeing it from a proper perspective Cali.

How can anyone in their right mind blame Cutler? He may have wanted out but only after being kicked out.

+He knew that the core of young, productive and talented offensive players that the 2008 Broncos had was among the best in league history. And therefore what ever the hell they were doing was working!
+He knew that Pat Bowlen made a big mistake by hiring Josh McDaniels.
+He quickly learned that Josh McDaniels was fricking out of his mind because he spitefully wanted to dismantle that core of young, productive and talented offensive players and change the successful scheme that they were running.
+He quickly learned that Josh McDaniels was out of his frickin mind and wanted to trade him, the most successful (by a few miles) young QB in Broncos history .
+He quickly learned that if you were not one of Josh McDaniels offensive guys (no matter how talented, young and productive) he would not keep you around.
+He quickly learned that if you did not kiss Josh McDaniels imature, insecure and spiteful little ass…he was not going to keep you around.
+He quickly learned that Josh McDaniels was far to immature and insecure to be a quality leader, teacher, mentor and coach at the NFL level.
+Cutler was a Bronco. He was drafted by the Broncos. He was a successful young Bronco and never gave any indication (before the Josh McDaniels take over) that he was not happy in Denver and or did not want to finish his career win Denver.

At the time of his banishment, I couldn’t blame Cuter for his actions because he was placed in a horrible situation (unbelievable when you think about it) by an immature, insecure and inexperienced spiteful little man. Josh McDaniels treated Cutler, the team, the organization and fans like shit and I will never let it go.

I’m not keeping my fingers crossed, sitting Native America style in front of my Jay Shrine hoping that Cutler will someday (before Da Bears frickin kill him) come back and rescues the Broncos. Not at all, I’m very excited (and very interested) to see what the near future has in store for my favorite team. I’m just continuing to open eyes about what really took place in Denver from 2009-2010, that’s all.

And your Cuter = Allen comparison is like comparing Night and Day. It’s actually discouraging. Complete opposites. Allen gladly, willingly and rightfully took a promotion and more money to move from a DC to a HC of an NFL football team. As stated above, Jay Cutler was forced out of Denver by an immature, insecure, inexperienced and spiteful little man. It is inaccurate statements and comparisons like that, that will continue to fuel me.

Now if you want to talk about a player that forced his way out. Let’s talk about Brandon Lloyd, the selfish stat whore. He’d rather play on a losing team and catch a lot of passes then play on a winning team quarterbacked by Tim Tebow and catch fewer passes and have to run block.

I hope this way too long reply and shed a little light onto several situations for you and some other readers.

Im well aware of these situations KK. Consider this:

1. Jay was an arrogant little punk who once said “I have a stronger arm than Elway.”

2. Acted totally disinterested during a dinner with said Johnny legend

3. Got a cell phone slapped out of his hands when John Lynch was trying to talk to him about the secondary

4. Called Denver fans a 6 and Chicago fans a 9.

5. He’s no longer a Bronco. So good riddance. Oh, and taking interviews while your team is in the playoffs is very disrespectful to your organization. So good riddance Allen as well

Lets face it. Most if not all young, ultra talented NFL QBs are arrogant.

John Elway too was a young, arrogant and ultra talented NFL QB once upon a time. I seriously doubt that he and Josh McDaniels would have been BFF.

We won this battle (really I won since you were not around). Most people at MHR now dislike McJedi.

That doesn’t mean they should like Cutler. They are both douche bags.

A core of Cutler, Marshall and Scheff would never have won a Super Bowl in Denver. I don’t even know if that core makes the playoffs.

You mean the most productive core of young offensive players in league history?

Playing in the weak ass west and never making the playoffs? Now what would prompt you to make a ridicules statement like that?

Tebowing <> Praying

I thought this was obvious to people.

Using your logic, Prater and DJ should be cut immediately as well. Dismissing their on-field production, they committed the same selfish act as Moreno. DJ committed it twice. If they were kept on the team, Moreno should as well if the team wants to give him one more chance at proving himself. Speaking strictly about the act itself, and not on-field production, Moreno should be treated the same as Prater and Williams. If they choose to cut him, it should be because of lack of production. Not the DUI.

If they choose to cut him, it should be because of lack of production.

I agree.

And he’ll probably get cut when 2012 competition beats him out. Moreno’s NFL self life looks like it could be surprisingly short lived. He may want to switch from a Bentley to something like a Accord. Get used to normal life sooner vs later because he’ll be working with Tatum Bell in a year or two.

Haha.

We’re not cutting Moreno.

I’d wait until the end of TC before you make that claim.

Moreno isn’t that good to just assume he makes the 2012 roster. Esp when we draft an RB high in 2012 and McGahee is still around.

Moreno is no shoe in for the 2012 team and that statement I’m making is 100% on his limited talent and lack of production. The DUI isn’t something I’m even considering.

I will if you do.

Oh wait you already have said your piece. I guess I’m supposed to shut up and listen.

I would agree, I don’t think they cut him. Still got some promise. He was showing flashes again this year and might have flourished in the Tebow run offense but suffered that injury. Wish we coul dhave seen him in the Tebow offense

only reason might be is if he doesn’t rehab properly

I didn’t say to cut Moreno now. Not once did I say that. I’m not one of the screaming fools.

What I did say is that Moreno will get cut after TC when it becomes apparent for the 4th year in a row that he isn’t any good.

Eh

Moreno isn’t a great runner – true. He does have a lot of use as a utility back though. He’s an excellent receiver – he’s by far Denver’s best receiving RB. Did you notice how the frequency of screen passes went dramatically down once Moreno went down? Moreno was always a threat receiving out of the backfield, and McGahee is pretty meh in that role. I also think Moreno has plenty of potential in some of the zone-read series of plays as I think that style feeds more off his abilities than the bruising style McGahee runs.

Now, that doesn’t make him a great RB… It’s just that Moreno = Robert Ayers. A dude drafted in the first round who plays like a dude drafted in the 3rd round. Not a guy you plan your future around, but not a guy you need to cut unless you have a wealth of talent at the position (and we don’t at RB). Moreno is an underachiever sure and will never be a 20 or even 15 carries/game guy, but he’s still a very useful player and better than replacement-level.

Moreno > Ball, Johnson

The deciding factor there will be contracts. The sad thing is they’ve already paid out the majority of Moreno’s contract. If both Ball and Johnson can step up, Moreno could become very obsolete. If the Broncos hit on some good talent in the draft, TC could be very interesting.

An aside: If you are rolling in a Bentley with “Sauced” on your vanity plate, it’s just a matter of time before you get nailed. Moreno’s off field vision seems to be just as poor as it is on.

Agree Mostly.

If EFX were on the fence about keeping KnoShow around, this might have pushed them to go ahead and release him. Which I would probably do just because he can’t stay healthy and can’t produce. He wouldn’t be hard to replace, since he hardly ever plays.

I don’t believe that any one who is arrested should be cut just because of an arrest. The old innocent till proven guilty thing. I know we all like to pass immediate judgment from what we hear from the media. For me, the determining factor would be “are they hurting the locker room and team unity”, if so then let ’em go.

1st time DUI isn’t a cut-able offense in many cases. Blowing a 0.10 and getting pulled over speeding is really stupid, but it’s just that.

Blowing a 0.2 and crashing into another car.. That is cuttable.

Raping an unconscious women (P Cox). that’s cuttable too.

Richard Quinn not knowing the play book after two seasons. Also cuttable offense.

HAHA

Dick was a monstrous swing and miss.

McDaniels Just needed more time!
Just think

..of the roster McD could’ve put together with just one more draft. Julio Jones at #2 with a reach for a raw TE who can double as long snapper at #45.

Yes, I’m still bitter.

You forgot trading away the #1 overall pick in 2012 (Andrew Luck) so we could get Ras-I Dowling at the top of round 2.

Come on man!

Luck and his family aren’t dumb. He’d be registering for postgrad courses at Stanford as soon as McDaniels got anywhere near the top pick.

But we didn’t because McJedi would have traded away our future 1st round pick sight unseen so he could land a versatile gamer like Ras-I Dowling and get him one year earlier (which apparently makes the trade smarter???). Not that I ever understood that inane logic.

The Pats got Andrew Luck in 2012. and the McJedi plan succeeded to it’s fullest extent.

Thankfully Josh was dumb enough to actively spy on the 49ers and try to cover it up, but since his staff hated him so much, they ratted him out and he was fired.

Josh McJedi in his Scobby-Doo episode voice…

“And I would have gotten away with it too if not for those meddling Mike McCoy” Whom was the rat.

Thanks Mike. That was your best ever play call!

I’d try for a witty reply but I don’t have it in me anymore. Time to go and kick the dog. You dragged me down into the muck with you, McDaniels.

It won’t be until 2018 or so where I’ll be able to get over the McJedi stench.

As long as I have to watch tools like Moreno waste away on our roster, I’ll just be too disgusted.

Just imagine if McJedi had the 2011 draft!!! and more time to work with Orton, Wink, Prieffer and Dick Quinn. We could have gone 0-16 last year with OLB Robert Ayers leading the team with 0.5 sacks.

I was devastated when we fired McJedi. We were right on the cusp of 5 consecutive Super Bowl wins (well… according to Lombardi and the intelligentsia).

And yes. I’m still very bitter. Seeing dumb ass Moreno get tagged for DUI as Orakpo made the Pro Bowls in 2009, 2010 and 2011 (yes all of them).

At least we have Robert Ayers and his likely career high of 3 sacks in 2011.

ha ha...

Sounds good to me.

Using your logic, Prater and DJ should be cut immediately as well. Dismissing their on-field production, they committed the same selfish act as Moreno. DJ committed it twice.

Yup.

I can’t be the only person that thinks the Super Bowl was rather dull. For the QB ratings and high completion %s, that game wasn’t all that entertaining or well played (executed).

Think of it this way, Tom Brady set the NFL record for consecutive completions, his completion % was 66%, he threw for nearly 300 yards and his QB rating was 91. Yet his team scored all of 17 points in a loss.

I mean Denver scored 17 points in our win over Kansas City (in KC) where Tebow was 2-8 passing with one TD and no turnovers and just 69 yards passing. KC’s defense is as good as the Giants (maybe better). definitely a better secondary and set of LBs than NYG.

Lots of ways to skin a cat and win (or lose) in the NFL. Those that say the NFL is a passing league are lazy cliche repeaters. I’d rather have offensive balance, a team with a + turnover ratio and a good pass rush.

I agree with everything you just said.

I also thought it was dull, and that the crowd felt muted, too, at least on TV. Kind of a boring game.

Awesome throw by Manning that one time, but otherwise… and I can’t get over, just aesthetically speaking, how dumb the game-winning touchdown looked.

Yes. That looked absurd. The biggest TD of the season and very few players were evening trying. Watching Spikes show no effort (on purpose) just looked wrong.

I’m sure ESPN will rate it as a Top 5 Super Bowl, but it wasn’t even close.

BAM!

Great ruminations.

I wonder if we could

trade Moreno for a 6th round pick since we don’t have one (Thanks a lot McDaniels)

A sixth rounder for Joe Mays may have been one of McJedi’s very best trades. A sad comment in its own regard.

Joe Mays is better than Mike Mohammad (another 6th rounder). Sadly, he may be better than Nate Irving too.

Just curious.

Do you get to watch practices? Are you privy to more information than what most of us have?

I do get to watch the games and Mohammad doesn’t play in them. In fact, we even felt comfortable enough cutting him during the season.

1+1 works for me Digger. Doesn’t work for everyone though.

I always thought McDaniels did pretty good with trades

………and then made stupid selections with those draft picks.

part of being a savant

at times, he “succeeded,” in spite of himself, he just can’t relate to people effectively at all, he’s a horses’ south end and he’s back where he belongs

It's true. Maroney was top notch.
they weren't all good

that one and the Quinn for Hillis come to mind.
But I think we came out ahead in the Cutler deal and also the Brandon Marshall deal if only the picks were used for better things than Richard Quinn and Alphonso SMith among others.

Keep that 2008 core of young, talented, productive offensive players together and win some championships.

No way. Cutler isn’t a winner and Marshall really isn’t a winner. Scheff was a mid level TE and that is it. Royal is totally overrated at WR and HIllis is a mid level RB.

If our O really was good in 2008, we’d have scored more points, rather than just hollow yards.

Not to mention Shanny hasn’t been a good NFL coach since 2005.

McJedi was a horrible hire, but our 2008 was nothing special.

I’m pretty sure we got murdered in the Alphonso Smith deal, the Hillis deal, the Maroney deal, the Jarvis Green deal.

We even got bad value trading down with the Eagles and 49ers and gave up bad value moving back up for Tebow and DT at the 2011 draft.

McJedi lost most of his trades.

Got murdered in the Alphonso Smith deal?

we got what he was worth. He just shouldn’t have been drafted in the first place.

Dude, there is no way a mid 2010 1st round pick was worth a high 2009 2nd round pick.

No math can make that deal pencil out for Denver.

I thought you were referring to the Alphonso Smith trade to Detroit not the draft day trade for picks. I never like trading next year’s picks for this year’s. That’s never good math in my opinion.
The Hillis trade seemed like murder at frst but after seeing him act up this year while Brady Quinn was being a good teammate makes me wonder.

I’m not worried about Irving. I’ll reserve judgements until after this year’s TC.

Mays is a solid run stuffer, but boy does he have deficiencies in pass coverage.

Lets not kid ourselves Nick. I couldn’t name you three worse starting ILBs in the NFL than Mays.

Joe Mays is likely the worst starting MLB in the league.

Oh but according to PFF he's one of our best defenders!

Stats dont tell the whole story. To put it in perspective, all you have to do is tell me who is our worst starting defender. To me, its neck and neck between Mays and one of the Strong Safeties.

Raheem Moore was the worst defender is several games I watched. Mays was the worst in several as well.

Dawkins and Carter has some very low light performances as well.

Tough for me to accept Dawkins in this mix

Dawkins brings to that defense far more than just individual production. He keeps guys in their place. He runs that defense.

I read a stat, and am too lazy at the moment to check on it, but it said the Broncos never lost when Dawkins and Tebow each played the entire game.

I’d be willing to forgive Dawkins his missteps for the simple power of presence he provides on the field.

But….but… it’s the off season!

How dare you tell me one of our Broncos is bad!

EVERYONE IS AMAZING AND A FUTURE HALL OF FAMER!!!

sticks fingers in his ears LALALALALALA.

just because I thought it would be interesting to look up in the stats (despite Calikula’s objections :) ) …

pro-football-reference, starting ILB’s, started 8 or more games: Tied for 22nd out of 34. Scores ranged from 18 AV (D’Qwell Jackson of Cleveland) to 4 AV (Dan Connor of Carolina), Mays scored a 7.

advancednflstats, Mays ranks 74 out of 198 linebackers – that’s all linebackers, and I couldn’t filter out non-starters or players that made only one game appearance.

profootballfocus, Mays is 17th out of 50 ILB’s. Both Mays and D’Qwell are similar in pass coverage according to them, but D’Qwell was much stronger against the run.

All three sites agree that these inside linebackers are worse than Mays:

A.J. Hawk, Green Bay
Bradie James, Dallas
Dan Connor, Carolina (why does this guy keep showing up on our mocks? He sucks.)

Believe it or not, those are the only three ILB’s in the NFL that were unanimously considered worse than Mays – looking at AV, PFF’s “overall”, and adv.’s EPA, WPA, and EPA/G.

So yeah, McGeorge was pretty close. haha.

btw

I should note that using standards as tight as those, only eight ILB’s were unanimously considered better than Mays:

Patrick Willis
Ray Lewis
Paul Posluszny
Stephen Tulloch
London Fletcher
D’Qwell Jackson
Daryl Washington
Curtis Lofton

All the others had at least one stat that was worse (like, Urlacher had less WPA), or may have been categorized as being in a position other than MLB.

Alec Baldwin

Tebow “tebowed” with Alec Baldwin also.If Tim has sex he might get distracted. The barn door would be open

And what I really liked was when Tebow said, and I'm paraphrasing - "this really is a never say never moment...

Alec Baldwin prayed…that’s pretty cool"

Nice touch!

I asked Mr Bowlen once -some years ago:

With all the pressure to win in the NFL – how do you balance the role model element/character when it comes to alcohol etc with winning? How did he weigh these issues? You know he commented on the relative immaturity of younger players, the role models in their lives etc but seemed to be focus on the athlete taking sincere responsibility and looking at each situation individually/privately and said – you know, we’ve all made mistakes in our lives we regretted later. It didnt seem he was ready to condemn/cut a guy for one foul up. He wasnt endorsing nor excusing it all all, just a sage perspective. I think the inference was that its hard to have a blanket rigid policy [unless its drug use]. Without saying so, I think he felt that teams would cut way too many players if they had a zero tolerance policy across the board. I think they can try, but doing is another matter. This is why the NFL has drug polices and teams can defer to the NFL if they like…

I've never met Mr. Bowlen

but your take only reiterates what I have thought about him for years, the man is honest, the man is wise, and he is a great leader. He is really respected by other fanbases throughout the league, you guys would be surprised if you go SB Surfing as I have hitherto done.

His approach

was really alot more paternal that I expected…he thinks of his guys as family and handles them that way. he can be very disappointed in them, hold them accountable, fine them even and then give them a second chance with boundaries. I was just really curious then, since the buck stops with the owner, how does he make the call between winning at all costs and principle. I was totally impressed by the answer and the practical realism that went with it.

your comments

are why I admire and respect Mr. Bowlen so much, we are a perennial power primarily because of his magnificence, all you need to know about the Albertan-born OU grad is after the Packers’ Super Bowl, he said THIS ONE’S FOR JOHN :)

Drunk

Why didn’t Moreno just get a plate that said “DRUNK”

He was too drunk to think of that.
So if it were up to you

We wouldn’t have a starting MLB or Kicker, backup RB or a D-Lineman???

That's what I was thinking.

Nobody ever does stupid shit in their twenties, right?

I can’t say I’d care if they cut Moreno at this point. He just doesn’t seem to be a very good player.

Well, we "would" have a starting MLB and Kicker, etc..., it just wouldn't be DJ or Prater, etc...
Take a cab policy

The NFL needs to stress to these kids that they should never go out driving their car if they might be drinking. Take a cab, they can afford it

thats the thing, as of like 1 year or 2 years ago, there was a service, that is sometimes PAID for by the team or the League, that all they have to do is call a number and they will get picked up.

I believe, each team has free cab service for players who go out drinking...

Whether it’s for an actual cab service they use or if they hire their own drivers. I’m pretty sure that has been in place for several years. So there really is no excuse for a player to get a DUI.

We all mess up

still love you Knowshon

For the record

if Tebow is able to wrangle Mario Menounos onto the Broncos saddle, I say more power to him.

The sooner he can get her in a Bronco bikini, the better.

I can't refute the latter clause :)
I object! Isnt it the sooner he can get her...out of any bikini???

Its…a miracle!

yes

one-piece swimsuits are actually preferable, if the woman has a nice enough body, let’s have some imagination

I thought Menudo went out in the 70's

It tates good though, amazing what you can do with pig testicles and hot sauce

Oh, Menudo brings back bad memories

during El Paso days, yuck

Cow tripe and hominy actually
amazing what you can do with pig testicles and hot sauce

Hangover

Back in my drinking days it took the edge off the next morning

Mexican Catholics in the borderlands ate it Sunday mornings, they became sober for Mass

I still don't get the extreme hate for Moreno

He has 18 TDs in 2.25 seasons of games(due to injury). He averaged 8.5 TDs for his first 2 seasons. Obviously this year he was hit hard with the injury bug. McGahee had an awesome season and broke the 1000 yard mark, but he only had 5 TDs? People want to cut bait like he was Anthony Alridge. When Healthy, Moreno puts points on the board and this is while he is still considered a bust. I’m still holding out final judgment. Let him get healthy and compete for the 2012 roster.

I used my secret decoder glasses and found the answer in your comment...

…(due to injury).
…hit hard with the injury bug
When Healthy…
…get healthy…

We were saying the same thing about Demaryius Thomas
True

and we’ll probably be saying it again. Both of these guys seem to be a little more brittle than others in the same position. One difference to me is that DT seemed to be more of a playmaker when he was on the field than KM did this year.
So if you are going to fill roster spots with people that break easily, at least have people that can make a difference when they aren’t broken.

18 TDs
13 games missed in 3 years
Lance Ball hasn't missed a single game and has scored 2 TDs

This is what ive been trying to say since yesterday. If he can get healthy, he’s shown enough to at least earn a roster spot. Then it’s up to him to prove himself.

Because he isn't very good?

Look at the FO running back stats for last year. Scroll all the way down to Moreno – its a long way. See that -5 in the DYAR column next to his name? That means Moreno was worse than replacement level for the Broncos last year – a street free agent would be expected to do better than Moreno if given the same opportunities.

If Moreno isn’t catching the ball in space he is the worst RB option on the Broncos roster.

yet he scores TDs....

And Lance Ball has 2 in 2 seasons

While I LOVE footballoutsider's stats

the problem in this case is that KM had most of his touches when either hurt, or in games where the oline was being BRUTALIZED by the defense.

My guess is if you looked at similar situations for our other RBs (e.g., bad oline games like the 1st OAK contest, and/or when the the RB was dinged up), KM would look very similar or better than our other RBs.

His problem is he can’t stay healthy… when healthy, and getting even a modicum of blocking from the oline, he’s looked fine. In fact, I think when he’s been healthy he’s looked better in many ways than McGahee, and the coaches seemingly agreed given early season depth charts (before the injury bug hit KM).

If he can’t stay healthy, he’s expendable. But if healthy he’s cheap, and easily one of the top 3 backs on our current roster… when he’s not top 3 (due to injury or performance), he can go bye-bye.

meh

Even FO rates him very highly as a pass-catcher out of the backfield.

cut him

Knowshon Moreno has never been all that productive when he played… and is oft injured. This was a waste of a first round draft pick in my opinion, so yeah… he needs to be cut.

I could care less if he got a DUI. Lots of folks make mistakes… A second DUI is not ok. A string of DUI’s is inexcusable.

IMO, a single DUI is no reason to cut him. His performance and reliability are definitely reasons to send him packin.

Maybe being Catholic and alchoholic goes hand in hand. It did for me

Classic overreaction

Yessiree!

I say we hang him.

I say we hang him

and then we kill him.

i say we stomp him. then we tattoo him.

A tattoo

that says sauced and stupid.

Time to cut our losses with KM

He’s hardly productive when he plays, and he hardly plays. Not a very good combo. Doug Martin, anyone?

have to wait until the draft...
Moreno can stay so we get some production out of him before trading him for a pick

Letting him walk now would mean having overspent for his services. Now that he is cheap, the team could use him on 3rd downs. I think that’s his forte, as proven by his inflated stats when the Broncos are losing and the defense is playing the pass. That’s when Moreno really shines.

If anyone should be traded for draft picks, it’s DJ. He’s a multiple DUI offender and his stock may never be higher.

DJ is a good player and I'm not calling for a trade.

He may be trade bait though as you say. Even though his 2nd offense of DUI could no longer be directly blamed for his departure it could be the reason. It is far enough in the past and his contract is far enough along that his stock may be high enough to actually make it worthwhile to trade him. Trading Moreno right now would be very foolish.

I don't think he has much stock at all actually

His contract is too big. No one wants a LB in his 30s who has a huge contract and doesn’t quite play up to it.

I think they might be able to restructure his contract first

then trade him.

If that is possible, I’d be down with that. I don’t know enough to comment on if it’s actually possible.

agreed

I just hope his game catches up to his wisdom

Baghdad Iraq

Big Bronco fanbase in ALL the hellholes in the world
