The Broncos have brought back Austin Sylvester onto the roster. As Andrew Mason reports, Sylvester is the only fullback under contract for 2012.
He was originally signed by the Broncos on July 27th this year and participated in Denver's Training Camp. Austin was waived in the last cuts and then signed to the Broncos Practice Squad before being released in late October. He was then a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Practice Squad for a few weeks. With Spencer Larsen fighting a hamstring injury, the Broncos signed Sylvester to the active roster on December 27th and he was waived a few weeks later. However, he comes back to the Broncos to participate in offseason workouts and attempt to solidify himself on the 53 man roster.
With the Broncos penchant for running the football and Spencer Larsen's status as a potential unrestricted , it comes as no surprise that they would seek the help of a fullback like Austin Sylvester.

Anybody know anything about this guy? Like from his college days?

I hope he can make the roster this year
As I recall he is pretty beefy and can be a force in blocking for TT or a RB. He can take on Linebackers or Defensive Ends.

6'1" 241 Washington
Special teams ace and played both LB and FB. Sound familar? Insurance in case Larsen doesn’t come back. Maybe he’ll show Polk around Denver when he signs. Haha.

Considering how unimpressive he's been up to this point
I hope it’s just a short term move in case Larsen doesn’t resign. Though if Larsen doesn’t resign, I guess he’ll do unless we draft a FB.

We need someone for the camp, and he's likely to be cut again
si_ice - February 8, 2012
That's exactly that I was thinking
Considering he’s familiar with the offense, there is no harm in having him around for camp.
Topher Doll - February 8, 2012
Not sure what he needs to break out
But he played well for us last summer. Glad to have him around and I hope he can find a spot on the active roster.

Diehl from Clemson in the 5h or 6th would be a nice addition i think

Peyton to Arizona?
Cardinals hired Frank Reich as wide receivers coach. Reich was on Indianapolis’ coaching staff for the last four years.
Digger24 - February 8, 2012
Arizona makes sense.
Miami, Washington and probably the Jets will be hard after him though.

The thought of P. Manning in KC scares the bejesus out of me
Horsepower - February 8, 2012
Yeah im not even mentioning it. Can't happen.

Considering the heavy contract they just tied up in Kolb
I’d be shocked to see them go out the following season and sign another huge contract, even if Peyton is willing to take a pay cut like he says. Though it would make them contenders in that division, I do expect the NFC West to be a tough crown to take, especially with SF like to remain a quality team and both Seattle and St. Louis to make major improvements as well. While Arizona is likely a top contender for Peyton, just looking at the top 3 teams in competition (Arizona, Washington and Miami) it’s clear Miami is the most complete team now and the most likely to make the playoffs in a weak AFC, compared to the tougher NFC conference. They have the best defense of the three, as well the best group of RB’s and WR’s. So while Arizona would be in the top 2 if I was Manning, Miami seems like the better chance to win a Super Bowl. Washington would be the worst place since they have two solid, though not great, WR’s and a struggling running game and a defense that is degrading.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Peyton went to Arizona, where he could groom a surprising successful John Skelton, Miami has the money, talent and new coaching to be a desirable location.

Kolb has an option coming up though i believe
Scotty Payne - February 8, 2012
Yeah 7 mill option on March 17th, so if Manning shows signs that he'll be healthy in 2012, it could happen
Scotty Payne - February 8, 2012
Funny you mentioned Skelton
I always thought he was very similiar to Peyton physically and in his throwing motion. Won’t happen they like what they have in Kolb and Peyton wont go anyway, worst pass protecting O-line in the league
ShyandObese - February 9, 2012
I'm not clear on how the option bonus works.
Peyton’s is 28 million. Can you enlighten me on how they get out of paying that?
Digger24 - February 9, 2012
He is willing to restructure his contract
Before that bonus kicks in.
Topher Doll - February 9, 2012
In order to make trading him possible?
If that’s the case couldn’t Kolb do the same thing with his 7 mil. owed him? Then Ariz could trade Kolb to Seattle and get Manning.
Digger24 - February 9, 2012
Kolb just cashed in
I seriously doubt wants to take a pay cut, and from what Seattle’s FO is saying, they like Jackson and drafting a rookie rather than paying Kolb. Though Whisenhunt does need to start winning soon, since Warner’s retirement, he has struggled, heck his best QB was Skelton, who if given another year learning could be a good starter, though behind Manning he could learn a lot, the question is if the Cards commit to Manning and they still struggle, what happens? It’s an all-in move.

Wow, when this is news it must be a hell of a quiet time.
